On another note, the place is dead quiet. Even when we were losing last year the place was loud. Now it's quiet unless we're winning. Lost the reputation of loudest arena in the league pretty quickly.
The Jets have played way better hockey on the road this year, and its not even close. They seem really tentative and allow the other team to dictate play at home.[/QUOTE]
OK, my comment here might get some pushback, but this isn't trolling. When my city lost its NHL team in the early '90s, I became a Jets fan. Came up to see some games in the old Arena and even had the honor of playing some pickup there. So I'm on your side and want the Jets to do well. But I've also been wondering why the Jets have the rarity of a worse home record than on the road. I think part of it, even if it's a small part, could be that the atmosphere there motivates the road team.
Yeah, I've read on other threads that some fans think other teams are intimidated at MTS Centre. I don't buy it. I remember once reading how fans were going to mock "Cindy" Crosby, then I watched him take on that challenge in a pre-game interview and then go out and score two goals. Today there was a "Crosby's better" chant, but Ovechkin seems to have done just fine, a +2, an assist, tied for top on his team in shots. These pro players are among the most competetive people in the world, and if you want to wave that kind of red flag in front of them, you're going to get a response, and it's not going to be intimidation. On the game day thread today there were complaints that the Caps seemed to be winning most of the races to the puck. That's what a motivated team does. Maybe my theory's wrong - I hope it is because I'd like to see a Cup raised there some day and you need every possible advantage to get there. I just don't get why it's in any way smart to give a road team an extra bit of motivation - must make their coach's job easier. By the way, speaking of Cups, does MTS still hang the old Victorias' Stanley Cup and Jets' Avco Cup banners like they did at the Arena? Great to see history remembered like that. Hope you get that 4th Cup some day!
