Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

How about
to the Montreal Canadiens:
-Jesperi Kotkaniemi

to Carolina Hurricanes:
-Owen Beck
-Jayden Struble
-3rd round pick

It might sound funny, but kind of a cheaper option compared to the other proposals.

The Habs wished Kotkaniemi was still with the team at this moment. At 4.5 millions a year for a future 2B/3A centerman is pretty reasonable. Him and Demidov on the 2nd line could have been something. Add a UFA like Nikolej Ehlers and there goes your second line for next year.

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Ehlers - Kotkaniemi - Demidov

Kotkaniemi with Ehlers and Demidov could get 50 points easily on a top 6 and pp2 ice time.

Not sure I’d do this exact trade, I think it’s a bit of an overpayment for a 30-40 point centre, but I’d welcome Kotka back for something similar. He’s a brat, but if I remember correctly all he wanted was more ice time. I assume he’s attitude has mellowed out in recent years so why not.

Not that expensive if you compare to the other legit 2C options. Proven 2C will cost you an arm and a leg. Struble will be #5 d at best. Beck might turn into a 3C...might... and that 3rd round pick could turn into anything, its just a throw in.

Kotkaniemi is already there with the potential of being a 2c.

Kotkaniemi is also bigger than Beck, plays with an edge and is reliable defensively. His offensive skills can still develop as he's only 24 yearls old, entering his prime next year. He's also Left handed.

Jesus NO. KK is a capdump at this stage. Habs aren't giving up any value for a capdump.

How about hell no . Not a chance. This Hab fan is glad He's gone. I don't see where many Hab fans wishing he was still on the team. Wanna add to how you came up with that conclusion?

In the sense that Jesperi Kotkaniemi would be pretty useful with the Habs RIGHT NOW on the second line with Demidov against Washington. Nobody would spit on that. He would be the best option on that second line.

But KK is not a 2C and never will be. He's a 3C/4C.

Except he's not better than Evans / Dvorak. And he's overpaid.
He is still better than Evans now. Have you seen him play recently or do you still only have memory of him with the Habs ?

And Dvorak is already on a line with Gallagher and Anderson, he can't be on two lines.

So the Habs options right now are Evans, Newhook and Kapanen.

Anyone watching the Canes and the Habs would tell you that Kotkaniemi is better than Evans.

He would be Demidov's centerman if he was still a Habs.

Habs need a 2C next season. KK is not a 2C.

What part of that is giving you trouble?

Not a proven 2C right now, but still a viable option moving forward compared to all the other options on the market that will cost you a Cole Caufield or mutiple first round picks and good prospects.

Maybe he can be acquired for cheap this summer. He can still develop his offensive skills like I stated as he is just 24 years old.

Many are suggesting Anton Lundell as a legit option, but Kotkaniemi is not that far behind if you consider the price that you will need to pay. I would take my chance on Kotkaniemi if there's no good options available.

And doing nothing is not an option as we all know Demidov need a real centerman to play with.

He’s been tried at 2C forever and can’t produce. He will never be a 2C. He’s not a kid anymore. He’s an overpaid 3C. Nothing more.

While I understand the OP's logic, I don't see Kotkaniemi as a substantial enough upgrade on what the Habs currently have. While he would help strengthen the lineup down the middle, that's a high price to pay for a slight upgrade on Dvorak, who I think could easily be resigned.

Anton Lundell has a higher upside IMO. Lundell might not be available, even for an overpay, but I'd prefer to try that even if it costs substantially more than the proposed trade to Kotkaniemi.

Like you said. Florida isn't trading Lundell under any circumstances. He's beloved there and by the very definition of what style their coach plays. Not happening.

Except he hasn't shown any indication that he can be a 2C. I can't see Hughes being interested in bringing him in
