If Hughes not interested in Duchene sounds like he has a deal done for another #2 center. Because he should be all in on all candidates

It means if Horvat is traded it likely won't be for a better package (especially since he has a NTC). Islanders fans don't get to decide the trade package, GMs do, and looking at trade history, suggesting a 2C is getting the equivalent of 3 1st round picks is downright laughable.so because of that the islanders should also trade him for trash?

If the number of threads coming fans of various teams looking for a 2C is a indication, then they probably would get as good if not better offer

Don't disagree. If they try to address through trade, they're going to have to give up something they may not want to. A lot of teams looking for a 2C option.
Ideally, my preference is to get one on a short-term deal. 2-3 years. Give Hage time for another year at Michigan and one in Laval to see if he can progress that fast.
If the fact that the islanders offer for Horvat was better than the offer of 30 other teams is any indication, then they probably won't get as good if not better offer.

Frankly, I don't think Horvat is going anywhere
He's going to be a hard sell at 30 years old and another 6 years left. He's primed for a sharp decline and sooner than we all think.

Yeah i don't think so either, and I don't speak for other habs fans but I don't want him personally. We'll see what happens with the Isles, maybe they stand pat and do nothing or they shake things up.

To be fair, Dach has similar or better production than Nazar. The kid just can't stay healthy. If it wasn't for that, it'd be a fairly even trade.
Except he wasn't.
Raty was, at the time, one of the Isle's better prospect. Not top tier by any means, but a good prospect. He's still young, and may shape up to be a decent middle six player. That remains to be seen. Beauvillier was a throw in for sure, but then there was a 1st overall pick.
So a comparable package coming from the Habs we something like: Roy, 1st and a roster player. I wanna say Dach here, but he's a much better player than Beauvillier. Maybe Dvorak, but I don't think the Isles would want him? Maybe another prospect or pick gets added and Isles toss is something to even out the difference.
Now the big difference here is Vancouver didn't have a lot of teams desperate for a second line center. So that price could definitely go up if a bidding war starts. Either way, it certainly won't be less.
Teams have been looking for 2nd line centers since the dawn of time, there were just as many teams in on Horvat back then as there would be now. I'm sorry but a mid teens pick + a borderline 3rd line maybe 4th line center for a 27 year old 2nd line center is absolutely trash. Nelson who is 33 years old got more.
Yeah a comparable package would be 1st + Roy/Beck but Beck is a better prospect than Raty. Beauvilier is a cap dump. Since Gallagher is still good and Anderson has bounced back, Habs don't have one so Isles would have to actually add a 3/4th since they're not receiving a cap dump. Regardless i have no interest in Horvat personally.

They didn’t trade Nazar for Dach.
They were never acquiring that pick if it wasn’t to trade it for Dach.

They have lots of money coming off the books. If the plan is to move Laine they should wait next years deadline.
Return was well received by Canucks fans at the time of the trade. Raty had a really solid post-draft season, looked like he had second line upside, and IIRC the Isles weren't firmly in playoff position at the time so there was some risk that the team would fall off the cliff for one reason or another. Beauvillier was obviously there to make the cap work.

Though apparently they tried to get another pick to select Ostlund, as he fell. I wonder if they might have regretted trading for Dach without knowing who was still available to draft.

They wouldn’t have had the pick if it wasn’t to get Dach, Chicago was asking for a mid-round pick for him.

They could have still done Romanov + 3rd for 13.
Montreal was probably trading Romanov that draft no matter what
