Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

Any 2 of Beck, Newhook, Roy and kapanen and a 1st. And I’m 100% certain Hughes wouldn’t give up both Beck and kapanen.

Hage isn’t a B prospect

I like horvat. I don’t like 8.5 mill till 36 y.o.
He’s a very good two way C who’s never hit 70 pts
This still doesn’t answer what I asked when I said the equivalent deal in Habs fans eyes to what the Canucks moved Horvat for. This is just what you’re hoping to get for Horvat. Isles pass on that offer.

That’s not even close to the equivalent. Fill in the blank: 1st, _____ (B Tier center prospect), ______ (youngish roster player with term)
Sure dude. Newhook is a beauvilier =, younger and signed with term. If that’s not good enough you can have a good young prospect in Roy OR one of two young Cs in Beck or Kapanen who are good or better than Raty.
And the 1st.
Otherwise keep horvat and good luck with the retool.
Maybe some Habs fan would deal Hage. Not me

So you think 2025 1st/Hage or Mailloux/Dach (or another one of those cap dumps) would really get it done for Barzal or Horvat and make sense for the Islanders? This is what i'm getting at. Making a trade for a 2C will need to include a quality young roster player (who isn't a walking IR spot), quality prospect and a 1st.
What?
Keep talking to yourself and making up points and counterpoints.
I'm sure it makes you feel real smart.

I’m a Habs fan and I’m sorry for those offer. Lots of poster on our forum think we can get a top2 center without giving our top assets. They are in for a reality check.

Both are B tier center prospects. Not getting into semantics that Hage now is better than Raty now. If that’s not a good comparison what would you claim is the present day equivalent in Habs land to 1st/Raty/Beauvillier?
It's entirely possible that Montreal would have to give up Hage in any deal for a 2C. I suspect he'll be the name at the top of the list for a teams interested in dealing with Montreal. I would argue that's not a B prospect though. Freshman of the year in the Big 10. Point per game season. Second in scoring on a rebuilding team. I don't know what his ceiling is, but if he can back up this season with a big push in year 2 he may well be steal.

At the end of the day, you gotta give to get. If we do acquired someone lile Horvat, Hage is gone IMO.

To my fellow Habs fans, no one wants Newhook, Mailloux, Beck, etc. Every team has their own version of those players, they really don’t have much value.

If we want to trade for a quality 2nd line centre that can grow with the team it’ll have to start with Reinbacher, or Hage and go from there depending on who we want

Since we've been discussing that for 21 pages now, since we pretty much agree with your statement and since we think Habs management won't try to trade those two, I think the most likely path for Habs is to sign a UFA on July 1st. Showcasing Demidov might add to the recent attraction of the team.

Montreal isn't trading Hage imo. Not only is he a terrific, A level prospect, the optics of dealing him would be a PR disaster. They traded up to draft him and the family are all lifelong Habs fans. His dad was a hardcore CH fan who died in a tragic accident and the kid has always dreamed of playing for Mtl.
I can't see it.

this ^^.
Maybe they circle back for Zegras, maybe not.
Can't really see Bennett or any of the other UFA's coming
but who knows

As a fellow hab fan I'm sorry for the others making such awful trade proposals. It starts with reinbacker and hage plus multiple firsts and then add some more people think we can get a legit star for pieces of shit players like new hook and dach Jesus

I could see him moved, but for someone much younger than Horvat. Horvat makes sense as an interim solution until Hage develops, not as a long term #2C instead of Hage.

centers on teams that might be looking at shake ups

Calgary: Kadri
NYR: Zibanejad

Other centers that were rumored to be available (how legit the rumors are who knows)

St. Louis: Schenn
Nashville: O'Reilly
Minnesota: Rossi (genuinely no idea why but there were reports of him being available)

it really depends on if the habs want to go after a player with lower value and hope there is a bounce back, go after a vet to insulate the team and help in the lockerroom or go after the player with the highest potential. Obviously there would be different costs for different players
