- QUOTES -

JON COOPER: "(Camp has been) very competitive. Nobody has taken a shift off, or a drill off, or anything like that. Guys are very attentive. I don't know if it's kind of the fresh faces we see here, the new guys, but from the veterans all the way down I really like everything that's gone on. I know it's just three days, but when you start getting into day 3, day 4, and kind of grinding on the guys you can see them get tired, but this group is - to be honest it feels like every day has been the first day. So I've been pretty impressed."

"Part of it too is, well the energy of the veterans coming back, but part of it is some of the guys who have actually been here for a camp or two, and you've watched some of them take steps. That's been really encouraging. You just see a hunger in a lot of these players that see potential opportunity or, if not, for sure a call up oppertunity. So that's been really good to see."

CONOR GEEKIE: "It's long, it's hard, it's not suppose to be easy, but I'm just enjoying the ride."

"I think (skating with the veteran players) you just learn no matter how bad the ice is, or how good it is, they just make plays. You strive to be like some guys. Again, it's kind of cool to look up and see who you're going against, and who you're taking a faceoff against, but it's a moment that I cherish, and I try to have fun with it."

"I'm a guy that gets pretty amped up for games if you couldn't tell already. It's just one of those things that just makes it easier. It's the rush, it's getting back into everything. Obviously you're trying to compete for a spot, so that's just another motivational thing that you can kind of take towards your game. I'm just going to enjoy the ride and see what I can do."

Overreactions to game 1 preseason lines: Very odd lines, interesting that they would break up cirelli and hagel. Gage given a big opportunity tonight, he needs to capitalize on it to make the team, alot rides on tonight for him. Can't be a good sign that Perbix is going to likely be paired with Pouliot next game. The 2nd line for next game looks up in the air, definitely hagel but then probably ylonen and possibly geekie at center? Maybe Hagel, geekie and groshev, but I don't think they would make Ylonen play on the third line. Whichever one of those 4 thats going to be on the third line next game is going to be fighting an uphill battle to make the team.

edit: oh they wanted hagel for the PP1 practice, makes more sense

Based on what PP units they'll go with, that seems to be the determining factor in the split.

PP1 in Orlando?

Focusing the lines in camp around special teams makes sense. They rarely go into the line blender, and if you want to shorten your bench, then you play your stars together.

Sheary is the only Bolt I don't want to do well tonight. If he gets a couple easy points this preseason, they're gonna make a mistake and stick him in our top 6 or something. I'd much rather a younger player take his job.

Barely an AHL game.

Not sure if there will be anything to take from it. Maybe Sheary's health and what kind of shape Atkinson is in? A couple of the forwards might be trying to stick.

I'm expecting Raddysh to be in a pretty much the same role he was last year by season open.

We really don't have any younger players suited to that role either though. I think best case scenario, either Atkinson or Sheary shows they can play 2RW, and then the bottom 6 focuses on being a bottom 6.

The first game of the pre-season is always the least like the eventual team. We haven't even had any cuts yet.

I just don't want him in the lineup at all. Personally Im just not a fan. It wasn't just that he wasn't scoring last year. He didn't do much of anything. Coop scratching him kinda said how the coaching staff feels about him. If it weren't for his contract, I don't know if he'd still be here. I'd much rather have one of the younger hungrier players fight for the spot and bring some excitement and energy that this veteran group could use.

4 players I'm looking forward to watching tonight:

1: Lucas Edmonds. I thought he did very good for himself in the prospect tournament. 1 goal, 4 points, a point in each game. Can he keep the wheels rolling? If there is a dark horse in this competition, maybe it's Edmonds? That all depends on his performance. The prospect tournament, the main training camp, the camp scrimmages, they all mean something, but these games sit a little differently on the scales.

2. Gage Goncalves. He got a little taste of the NHL last year. Is now the time to break through? Either way, having a truly competitive competition is in the best interest of the Bolts making sure they promote the right guy.

3. Schmidt and Gill. This one's a tie for both players coming out of juniors. I thought this was the most comfortable Schmidt has looked in the prospect tournament, this his 3rd go around. Gill didn't look like he was negatively impacted by last season. Now how about these games? These guys aren't really fighting for a NHL spot atm, but with Thompson out of the organization, and Crozier on the edge of graduating, these are our next top right d prospects.

Schmidt is probably lower than Gill on the depth chart, atm.
