Chelios & Hull were basically telling Torts that he really should keep him mouth shut and Hull brought that up as well. Felt like it took the US team off their focus and into another kind.

I'm solidly in the camp of not bringing Torts back as head coach for this sort of thing (who isn't in that camp?), but most of the critiques are just mindless if not idiotic. Chelios & Hull are just throwing random things at him. I highly doubt that the players had any idea of sitting for the national anthem or cared one bit about what Torts said.

You've got all kinds of random stuff - Torts is at fault for benching Buff, then for playing Buff, for too much north-south, then for too much passing. If this discussion was restricted to people who actually could explain substantive critiques of Torts, these threads would be one-tenth the length.

Schneider's pads are undeniably hokey, but I'll be damned if they don't look absolutely glorious on the ice.

They were a nice little side story but to myself and many others Team Canada has been the best part of the tournament, by far.

the best part of this worthless tournament has been the Kessel tweet. That got more media exposure than any of the games..

They though it took US off their focus. Instead of being asked about the tournament and getting ready (which many players have admitted they probably weren't as prepared as they should have been v Europe), they were answering questions about the anthem.

Also, Buff was on the original list of players chosen. For that to happen and then Team USA having no idea how to use him has to be questioned imo. Also, all this talk about grit and everything like that and they barely show a pulse. It's being piled on cause Team USA looks about as bad as they did in Nagano, continue to go backwards, and are about to go winless.

What a cluster**** for Torts, the players and the management group of team USA... This tournament couldnt have gone any worse and seems like the players hate playing for Torts aswell

Lombardi with all his talk about the 96 team and grit and heart, he forgot just how damn talented that 96 team was.

Him, Torts and who ever else has been involved with Team USA since 2014 should not be near this team, that includes a good portion of the starting players on the ice.

And yet the guy is trying to sell us the Schneider is so much superior. He got smoked too. So don't give me the B.S. that he is so much better.

Of the three, Quick's skating ability gives him the highest upside when he's on and Schneider is the most consistent option. Either one could be the best option at a given time. I've never seen anything from Bishop to suggest he's even close to the two of them.

It also seems to get lost just how good Richter was in that tournament. I'm not blaming any US goalie in this tournament, but he was beyond on back then.

It doesnt matter. All of them are top goalies. They arent the problem for this US team.

Dustin Byfuglien looks absolutely clueless at this level, as do several of the guys on team USA. I still cannot believe they wasted a roster spot on him as a defenseman. The Johnson's are just as awful and belong nowhere near a best of the best tournament. What a cluster this roster is.

Nah, Brooks Orpik > Keith Yandle. :sarcasm:

Then it would prove he was the best and should've started to begin with.

Hard to do much coming off the bench cold. Even more so when the team in front of you has no pulse. GM favoritism, clueless coach. Yea. Doesn't matter though, no goalie was going to steal anything for this team with the amount of breakaways and odd man rushes given up.

Down to 10 forwards now. Hemsky hasn't returned for the 3rd period.

.

How much time did answering those questions take? A few minutes? Maybe they thought about it another half-hour? I can't understand why that would halt the team's preparation to any significant degree.

Well, Torts got exactly what he wanted with this roster. Team USA is officially loaded with a bunch of grinders with no offensive creativity. You've got like 2 guys on the entire team that are comfortable carrying the puck and pushing back the defense... Dump and chase on the world stage. Pathetic.

Oh god yea, he was so damn acrobatic and flexible before his knees went to hell.

A bit hyperbolic? :help:

I feel like Bishop is an awesome NHL playoff goalie, but has been underwhelming in international games. Even though the sample size is quite small, it might just be a coincidence. I remember the Russians blowing him up at the worlds 3 or 4 years ago, then he lost his job to a 19 or 20 year old John Gibson, who backstopped them to a bronze medal. I feel like Bishop is almost like the goalie equivalent of Patrick Kane in international tournaments. Kane is money in the NHL playoffs, but has underwhelmed in his last couple international tournaments.

The third goal Bishop allowed tonight, almost looked identical to a couple of those goals scored on Lehtonen in game 7 against the Blues. Which I've often used to compare that Bishop would be a huge upgrade over Lehtonen for the Stars, if they were to trade for him.

The only thing clueless is you evaluation of talent of hockey players
