I would like that Montreal were contenders in 2 years, and Crosby make a trade to them, and finish
off with a Cup in Montreal.

With his second assist of the afternoon Crosby has now passed Gordie Howe for 10th all-time in assists.

Whats next for Crosby(fingers crossed) ?
Think he is 7 points away from tying Yzerman ESP, he is 8 points from
tying "The Great One" most point with single franchise.

Pittsburgh sacrificed quite a lot in service to the Malkin/Crosby/Letang window. Whatever drawbacks there are now, there generally were benefits previously.
It generally tends to be the case.....you can't be a powerhouse team year after year and keep going, at some point the team ages and you don't have great prospects because you didn't have high picks. Same thing happened to Detroit....they might get back to the playoffs this year, but it will be tight.

The other thing that can happen is you do really really well with young players, but then they need to get paid and you don't have enough room for all of them (this isn't PIT, but that happens to teams as well). I think it's the exception, rather than the norm that you can have a powerhouse without a downside for some years.

Agree, but a team would have a helluva time achieving that while trading away 8 of their previous 12 first round draft picks like the Pens did.

Correcting in tying Gretzky for points with a single franchise, but that's not the "most points with single franchise" - that record holder is Howe with 1,809. Crazy that Gretzky is close to that though even though the most he's played with one team is 9 years.

In terms of Crosby, I do like the idea of him finishing his career in PIT. I don't know why, but I do like to see guys stay with one franchise their whole careers. Well, maybe I only care about the great players in that regard. It does suck to see the end of their careers though, because generally the team sucks, so even if they are still good, they are wasting away a bit. Yzerman was lucky though, started out bad, but then his career overlapped with other star players such that they didn't all get old at the same time. Though, his career was basically pre-cap, so easier to keep a team competitive if you want to spend the money.

Yup....but they had 3 cups during Crosby career, so well worth it. I'm sure the Leafs would trade away a ton of their future to get to lift the cup once. I must admit, I'd like to see what happens in Toronto if that were to happen. I've lived here since 1999, not a big Leafs fan, but don't mind seeing them win....local team and all. I remember, think it was 2002, I actually thought that had an easy path to the finals after getting Carolina in the 3rd round, but didn't happen. They would have likely had no chance against Detroit in the finals, but just being in the finals would be a big thing around here.

Sometimes it's hard to get out of the really dark days as well though....I mean, PIT was almost moved before getting Crosby. I'm not close enough to the team or the market to understand what was going on, but you don't want to see that either. I mean, Buffalo has been struggling for years and years now.....it's almost hard to be that bad for that long though isn't it?

It's funny to me that people think this way. No one would bat an eye if the team had traded the guy at any point, but somehow there is a "stain" if the player had anything to do with them moving teams. Scotty Bowman was real close to trading Yzerman, and that would have been "ok" in people's minds.

Personally I want to see Crosby, and great players, be able to do what they do one last time with talented players, not be anchored down by lesser talent, or in this case, a coach who refuses to use any of the assets at his disposal in a manner that plays to their strengths.

But I guess the poster was right in a thread some time ago about players with one team and does it add to the legacy: he said it does in certain people's minds because then it helps convince them they are rooting for more than just laundry. Brilliantly underrated comment IYAM.
