Too bad he's rotting @ PIT
Pittsburgh sacrificed quite a lot in service to the Malkin/Crosby/Letang window. Whatever drawbacks there are now, there generally were benefits previously.

It would be nailed onCrazy, if the broke neck or the steckel hit had not occurred we would be looking at 2000 points
It generally tends to be the case.....you can't be a powerhouse team year after year and keep going, at some point the team ages and you don't have great prospects because you didn't have high picks. Same thing happened to Detroit....they might get back to the playoffs this year, but it will be tight.Pittsburgh sacrificed quite a lot in service to the Malkin/Crosby/Letang window. I think it's the exception, rather than the norm that you can have a powerhouse without a downside for some years.
Correcting in tying Gretzky for points with a single franchise, but that's not the "most points with single franchise" - that record holder is Howe with 1,809. Crazy that Gretzky is close to that though even though the most he's played with one team is 9 years.Whats next for Crosby(fingers crossed) ?
Think he is 7 points away from tying Yzerman ESP, he is 8 points from
tying "The Great One" most point with single franchise.
Yup....but they had 3 cups during Crosby career, so well worth it. I'm sure the Leafs would trade away a ton of their future to get to lift the cup once. I must admit, I'd like to see what happens in Toronto if that were to happen. I've lived here since 1999, not a big Leafs fan, but don't mind seeing them win....local team and all. I remember, think it was 2002, I actually thought that had an easy path to the finals after getting Carolina in the 3rd round, but didn't happen. They would have likely had no chance against Detroit in the finals, but just being in the finals would be a big thing around here.Agree, but a team would have a helluva time achieving that while trading away 8 of their previous 12 first round draft picks like the Pens did.
