With his goal tonight Crosby passed Luc Robitaille to sit in 23th place all time points with 1395 points. Jari Kurri and Alex Ovechkin next to catch on the list who both have 1398 points.

1400 is coming up as well!

And barely any danger of not averaging 1 PPG up to this point in time.

The closest was in 2015-2016 when he started off the season pointless in his first 5 games, then had 3 through 9 (8 pointless games), 9 in 18, 19 through 29, and didn’t reach 1 PPG until Game 50. Fell back below to 57 points in 59 games. Then finished with 85 in 80.

Not much of a scare and it came during the lowest scoring year across the league in his career (5.42 GPG) and particular for the league’s stars.

For 17 seasons and 1,100 games, it’s been a damn impressive run.

crosby attempting to break a 2nd of gretzkys records and its very much doable

I think he'll easily be above a point per game for the next 2 seasons, and actually I'll say he probably holds the record after his 20th season. That and the goal record were basically the only Gretzky records that could've possibly been broken by Crosby and Ovechkin in this era.

Another way of looking at it is points per game on the schedule. That is, a player needs to score at least 82 points in an 82 game season, regardless of how many games he actually played in. (So Lemieux doesn't get credit for 2001, but Jagr would still get credit for 2000 despite missing a quarter of the year).

Using this much tougher standard, Crosby has 13 such seasons, and is working on his 14th season (he needs at least 12 points in the Penguins final 14 games). The only players with more "point per every game on the schedule" seasons are Gretzky and Howe (17x). Crosby is currently tied with Messier, Dionne and Hawerchuk (13x).

I have 14 for both Dionne and messier
fullName Point per games in a season
Wayne Gretzky 18
Gordie Howe 17
Mark Messier 14
Marcel Dionne 14
Dale Hawerchuk 13
Sidney Crosby 12
Joe Sakic 12
Stan Mikita 12
Ron Francis 12
Steve Yzerman 11

Messier scored 53 points in the 48 games lockout season of 94-95, Dionne scored 78 points during the 78 games season of 73-74 that would be easy miss.

And I have only 12 for Crosby I think, 10 time he scored over 82 points, 12-13 he had 56 in a 48 games schedule, 20-21 he had 62 in a 56 games one.

He missed in 19-20 to have 69 points or more, having 47 in 41

Given the behaviour of Crosbys cohorts in the Ovi milestone thread i am tempted to make snarky comments about how pace is not actualy scoring points etc etc. But to be fair this is a pretty impressive feat anyways, perhaps especially given all the injury shortened seasons. Nicely done!

Honest question, if he was to sustain a season ending injury in the first game next season but scored 2 points before that, does that mean this "streak" is still a supposed thing?

"I'm not going to make a comment, but if I did, here's what it would be"

Not sure it is an official record with parameters set:

It could fully depends on the people writing a blog post about it.
