#87 Sidney Crosby Milestone Thread - History will be made: 20 consecutive PPG seasons

McDavid may challenge this if he manages to reinvent his game a bit once his ungodly speed declines, but he's the only one I can see having a remote possibility.

Not sure about that, McDavid is at 10 now and likely going to continue to rack up ppg seasons for many more….but has only been done by one player in history so far so hard to assume McDavid would get there
Yeah he is half way. Obviously he is going to come close but the last few years will be the toughest. He should be good to at least make it to that 17-18 range.

Just out of curiosity, how many games does one have to play per season to have his points counted in this feat? For the lulz, if some player played 21 seasons and only played in one game every season and scored in every one of those games, would he beat the record? Change the number to two, or three, or four, how about now? What is the limit?

That is still extremely impressive. To score in 21 straight games and every game you ever played in

I mean, there are plenty of literal one-and-done players, drafted and undrafted, who got their one shot of a handful of games, never scored, and faded away into lesser leagues and other careers.

So, still pretty impressive IMO.

Crosby is Bryan Trottier magnified. An elite centre, who puts up big numbers, while playing hardball over the ice. Trottier was at that level for 1/3 the time Crosby’s 20 years of excellence. And Trottier was amazing. Crosby is just at another level. Easily the best player of millennia. For sure top ten all time and arguably top five.

The most elite compiler in nhl history

Since he turned 35, the elite compiler is 9th in points over the last three seasons and a few of the players ahead of him rely on elite linemates while Crosby chug alongs along with whoever they throw on his line.

More incredible is he is 5th in 5 on 5 points over this time.

It's not really arguable anymore

I want every die hard Detroit Pens hater from the early 2000's, who loved talking about tanking and how their team never did that, to line up shoulder to shoulder and uppercut themselves. Most insufferable fan.

Technically yeah, if a guy plays 1 game every year for 21 years and scores at least 1pt in each of those games, then he has the record....HOWEVER, the chances of a player only getting in 1 game a year and sticking around for 21 years 0% and if somehow that happened, the chances of that player scoring at least a point in each of those games is 0%.

So back to reality....I'm not a "Crosby is God" type guy, but the people that crap on this achievement because he had a year where he missed a bunch games due to injury and only played 22 games (scoring 37pts) that year are simply stupid in my book. It would be different if you had a guy that was at 51pts after 50 games several times decides to shut it down for the year to protect a stat....which would never happen. It's not like Crosby has had some super advantage to be able to get to this record because he was able to take some games off in the middle of his prime. No other player in the history of the game has been able to do this, what player could have done it if they weren't knocked down because they didn't have the advantages Crosby had by being injured during their prime and getting to play their prime during a very low scoring era?

Look, I'd be more on board to say "yeah whatever" if we were talking about a guy that just couldn't stay healthy, but still put up point in the games he played....so a huge "what if" story...would still be pretty cool to be able to put up at least 1pt per game in 20 straight seasons, but yeah, if you are like 100th all-time in overall points, would take some shine off of it....but Crosby might finish his career as the 4th or 5th highest scorer in history.
