84th Overall - Kirill Kirsanov

Alright you've convinced me, my expectations are appropriately raised.

Stupid gut, always making poor decisions.

Speaking of, I wonder if today is pizza day?

Ontario D will be Kirsanov, Salin, Dvorak and Booth. They need a few more veteran AHL D men, preferably with size.

Hickett's is on an AHL deal and the captain.

Am I a homer or do the Kings have some sneaky underrated prospects??

Kirsanov, Salin, Booth, Woolley, Dvorak, Ziemmer, Chromiak, Conmy, Sluknysky, George....

Obviously no real star power in that group (other than maybe George or Sluknysky if all goes well) but definitely some players that could hit as top6 / top4 d-men or top 9 forwards.

Would love to see them draft a big center with their 2025 1st round pick if they don't end up trading it - Maybe Greentree teammate Jack Nesbitt?? 6'4 center expected to be picked in the 21-32 range. He's listed as only 183 lbs which is a little concerning but also means he has a ton of room to grow / mature / put on weight and fill out his frame.

Depends on your definition of underrated. Where do you rate them? What are we thinking upsides are here?

Kirsanov - bottom-4 two-way defenseman
Salin - bottom-pairing puck mover
Booth - bottom-4 defensive defenseman
Woolley - bottom-4 physical defenseman
Dvorak - defensive defenseman
Ziemmer - middle-six grinding forward
Chromiak - AHL scoring forward. Like Fagemo
Conmy - top-6 scoring forward
Slukynsky - starting goalie
George - starting goalie

Are you expecting anything substantially better?

I definitely agree with your assessments of upside for these prospects.

I think Dvorak could be a bit of a wildcard given his size but I'm not really holding my breath - I know he didn't look great this year, I just know bigger players, especially defensemen, usually take longer to develop so personally I'm just happy to see him playing 40+ AHL games as a 19 year old (just turned 20). A lot can happen over the next couple years with a D man like that - Which I imagine is exactly the reason you don't have a top4/bottom4 designation for Dvorak - it's a toss up. For all we know he could be a career AHLer or be back in Europe in a few years.

Not expecting any of those guys to be star players or anything but I think my point was more that a lot of those guys could be really nice complimentary pieces coming up for the Kings.

Ultimately guys like Byfield, Clarke, Greentree, and Laferriere are going to be the ones to really move the needle (if the needle ends up moving lol) but you still need depth players than can contribute and it seems like the Kings have a lot of prospects that could be really solid in that sense.

At the NHL level I don't see him being a good fit in an energy role. And I think he has the natural talent to be a scoring player if he makes it.

What's so egregious about that opinion?
I don't know that I would raise it to the level of egregious and I love the kid but he's a 5'10 190 lb 6th round pick.

It just seemed oddly optimistic when compared to the rest of the evals.

Any insight into why he played half the year in the VHL at age 22 instead of playing in the KHL for the entire year?
I don’t know but some KHL teams are known to demote younger players that don’t extend their contracts with a view to heading to NA. I don’t know in his case but it does make it a bit tougher to assess.

Hicketts was resigned by the Kings to a 2-year deal. He's going to make a nice chunk of change in the AHL ($385k/$400k).

Would like to see a Woolley/Kiranov pairing but, I believe Woolley can still go back to London next season. He had a very nice Mem Cup tournament.
