84th Overall - Kirill Kirsanov

Has anyone heard any updates on Kirsanov? With all the talk of needing a big, defensively-sound LHD with great skating ability, he sounds like he could be the perfect fit on our 2nd pair. He already has so much experience playing against men as well. Next year could be something like:

Anderson - Doughty
Kirsanov - Durzi
Bjornfot - Roy
Spence

No... but I heard that Clarke kid is pretty good.

He's definitely intriguing. But he's totally off my radar until his KHL contract expires (I think it does at the end of this season?) and he signs an ELC. Makes things especially tough with the Russia/Ukraine war too. I truly hope he's got a desire to play in the NHL though. Would love to see him LA if he's an upgrade at LHD.

Philly had issues brining that KHL goalie over. Hope King's don't run into a similar issue if Kirill tried to sign an NHL contract.

Looks like he's been playing in the MHL and VHL and not on the KHL team. Putting up a point per game, but it's against lesser competition.

Have you heard anything about the Kings desire to sign him after his contract expires at the end of the season?

Maybe that helps in getting him to Ontario rather than demanding to go straight to the big club.

He's been playing in the VHL (Russian equivalent of the AHL) and is teammates with top 2023 prospect Matvei Michkov.

He had an assist today and has 9 points (1 G, 8 A) in 10 games.

Nothing more than what was said immediately after them drafting him. I seem to recall Yannetti saying something along the lines of "he's further along in his development" than other prospects. Beyond that I can't honestly say I've heard anyone mention him.

I forgot this guy existed but hoping he eventually makes the team simply because he's Russian and I miss having Russian boys on this team.

Not to be political but aren’t all men aged 18-65 unable to leave Russia at the moment? Doubt that’s going to change anytime soon.

@All The Kings Men, can you ask Yannetti or Blake about Kirsanov re-signing in Russia the next chance you get? Given our need for LHD, how well he's played in a men's league as a prospect, and that Yanetti liked him enough to trade up to select him, I find this incredibly disappointing.

SKA have signed a new contract with Kirill Kirsanov - Ice Hockey Club SKA Saint Petersburg, 2022/11/13

The thing is, this year he really hasn’t. After playing in the KHL the last 2 years, he has hardly played at all this year. Makes you wonder if they were keeping in the lower division to force him to sign an extension.

Right? That seemed awfully peculiar.

Russian league players are pretty well wasted picks for the Kings at this point, imo.

The Voynov curse.
