I mean the Rangers were better and tried harder and skated harder but they have a weird dichotomy where they clang the puck off the boards when they dont need to or do one touch passes when they REALLY don't need to instead of like, structured normal breakouts
Yeah the breakouts have been disastrous all season so I was surprised to see them go so well tonight. Seemed like the puck support was better too, guys were in the right spots for quick, short passes out of the zone.

Well, he’s just a 2C, so......................

I don't get the sarcasm honestly.
He only scored 17 5v5 goals last year and only has 2 so far this year.
He's playing very well right now but let's not get crazy..

Let’s relax on Kakko he’s 8 games into his nhl career. Easily could have had a goal tonight. He’s 18 years old. Jack Hughes has 2 points in 8 games and is a -4 too. So it’s completely normal. We need to give him mins though. He needs to play thru it. Too talented. To not get going. But he needs mins.

Good win. It's also good that a couple players got off the schneid. The Rangers very opportunistic tonight. They were sharper than usual defensively--it was more or less a bend but not break defense.....not a lot of second opportunities for the Sabres and not a lot of panic or being caught on long shifts for us. A pretty good forecheck for us for a good portion of the game and a number of odd man rushed with some actual good plays sometimes........and we got secondary scoring. Zibanejad--0 points and Panarin 1 point. The second and third lines put up the offense.

Henrik was solid. Our goalies have been good--they haven't been giving up easy ones.

Have to take risks sometimes. Even Panarin's deal or Trouba's deal could look absolutely awful in a few years. I would have tried for 4 years $4mil AAV.
That's way, way too much. He's making < 1M this year, that's a 3/15 extension for a guy with dubious interest from other teams. That's a lot of money for a dude with an unknown but not very large amount of options.

On another note. That’s the best we’ve looked. Splitting 93 and 10 is the right idea right now. Really settles down the whole line up.

That’s why Howden continues to get mins from Quinn over Lias. He can show you what he’s capable of. Tonight he was awesome.

Strome was great the right side of the D was awesome.

100% this benching him and demoting him is going to just make the situation worse and make his confidence even worse

Gotta be fair, Kakko got a real chance tonight and he was bad. Made a good line a non-factor.

It's very early but he's a little bit more of a project right now than I thought he would be.

tbh he could use a few games on the 4th line where he has very simple directives he can execute properly and consistently.

I wouldn't think the coach would scratch him - he followed up a game he got benched by putting him on the 1st line, lol.

I don’t see why some are disappointed with Kakko’s start. Delusions of Grandeur. He’s 18. He won’t become a star overnight.

I still say Strome doesn't belong anywhere near an NHL team's top six but he's been not fried butt this year so far.

Hey.. Everyone wanted to know how he would do on the 1st and now we know so at least we can put that to rest for a while.
He's young.. It's all good
