It is my sincere hope that Howden plays badly enough that Quinn actually notices and Andersson gets moved up the lineup, even if only for a couple of periods.

Hopefully Kakko does the things with more ice time (one assumes) and an decent centre.

Kakko looks like a very talented, yet nervous player who is trying to do much, and needs to settle down a bit. And that’s fine because I’d rather have a nervous player who cares than a slug who doesn’t give a shit.

That being said, just for a heads up in the GDT’s, is the current meme for Kakko that “he needs a center, so therefore Hate Howden?”

This isn’t directly at you @Nickmo82

I like to have a background on the regurgitated copy-pasta original and objective thoughts that start to bounce around here from time to time.

It's more a case of wanting to see Andersson actually be given a chance to succeed while acknowleding that Howden has been given that chance over and over and has done next to nothing with it.

The Kakko thing and the Howden thing are independent issues (in my mind at any rate).

before the inevitable illogical rabbit hole that will follow from others:

In the modern draft era of the NHL, nearly all Hall of Fame top pick players started their careers on awful teams, yet persevered nonetheless

Yeah I agree but let’s just hope he has the psychological makeup to become a top player. Hopefully someone on the Rangers staff is reminding Kappo of exactly what you just pointed out

The one thing that confuses me is that Fast and Strome looked good together one night, Strome said he liked playing with him and we never saw the combo again.
The kiss of death......"liking" to play with someone. Its a Rangers coaching tradition.

Liking the lines, even though Kakko doesn't quite "deserve" that status, but there probably is a method to Quinn's madness. Trying to get the kid going. He has the potential to carry a team, and getting him a ton of confidence will go a long long way.
He just may have been trying to hard to "drive" the line with previous line mates. Too early for that, needs to settle in and settle down. He doesn't need to be a superstar, just yet.

First game for me this season. Glad I am taking off tomorrow, will not be consuming just Pizza tonight if this game goes the way I think it will. lol

Yeah, dont want Howden to "fail" per sé, but has had many more opportunities to prove his offensive worth than Lias. Seems Quinn is happy with him concentrating on defensive positioning, and okay with little offensive production. Maybe that is the process? Isnt that somewhat similar in what Hayes had to do? Kevin was never known for being a 200 ft player until maybe his last 2 years. Howden may have been thrown to the wolves prematurely and is learning on the run with Quinn.

At this point, Lias seems a bit beyond Howden with defensive capabilities already there, now all he has to do is figure out ways to get on the scoresheet.
Lemmy/Lias/Fast seems like they would be difficult to play against and may be able to get some chemistry if "left together" for a good stretch.

Agree.......Quinn NEEDS TO stop trying to rush things. Allow some pairs to get really acquainted with one another. Not 2 games and then BOOM, switch it up. Looking for lightning in a bottle, when there is much more time for solid bonding, which is better for the long term.

I am not saying tank, but making the PO's really shouldn't be the priority. You dont tell your players that (in fact opposite) but, the brain trust needs to set their priorities straight. IMHO.

Gosh that quote from Kappo up above is really tough to read. Poor guy is 18 and clearly loosing confidence already. I’m positive he will get it together but this is case and point for why the coaches need to create an environment where guys are motivated to be successful not motivated by a fear of failure( not sure they are not creating the motivation through success atmosphere but just saying how Kappo’s quote highlights the need for that climate for the Rangers right now!)
A man, a kid without confidence doesn't speak up like that.
