Actually, Kreider is a legitimate 1st liner (but not elite) and Zibanejad is probably a bottom tier 1C. There’s just no depth among the forwards and the defense is an eyesore.

Eh, I don't think so. I think they're guys who can play in those positions and be serviceable, but ideally you have better players there. I know the metrics say about Kreider but there's just too much inconsistency in his game.

Brady didn’t throw a single punch... all he really did was take a penalty and give up a breakaway.

But also where was his d partner on that?

Brady made a bad play. As soon as the puck hit Zucc's stick Andersson was on top of him. The play should have been going up the ice but Brady should have either held on to it or moved it to someone else. A play like that can get a teammate concussed. He saw Zucc--he must not have seen Andersson closing on him. It's also the kind of play that catches your whole team by surprise so IMO that hit on Zucc and that goal by Hathaway is all on Skjei on that play.

Skjei is big but he really has no clue how to fight. Very few on his team really have a clue how to fight AFAIC. I'll name them--McQuaid, McLeod, Smith, Namestnikov, Beleskey and DeAngelo. Surprise, surprise--most of them come out of the CHL. Kreider fights occasionally but he's more of a wrestler.

Skjei should learn how to play hockey before he learns how to fight.

Skjei overreacted a little there. To me it looked more like a collision and not intential. But good to see he's willing to stand up for his teammates.

Eh, that was really only true last year.

Don't get me wrong, he's not a first liner at even strength, but he's usually way better than his 17-18 metrics.
He's not a great passer. His shot is hard but often inaccurate. His defense is spotty. He handles the puck like a grenade at times. He's not a first line center in my opinion.

I disagree on his defense. I think he's very good defensively.

But no, he's not a high-end 1C. Story of this team's life.

Skjei is being asked to be a first pairing guy---the Rangers go to defenseman. He's in over his head but as far as overall game he is our best D. He does have a bad tendency of trying to do too much. He's sub-McDonagh right now.
Not saying much when he’s out best

He literally has to beat out a couple traffic cones, Smith, and Shatty

He's sub-McDonagh like Marc Staal is sub-Karlsson.

He never has been and never will be anywhere near McDonagh.

LOL@ Skjei. Sets up Zucc with the Hospital pass over the middle, then at least jumps the guy who hit Zucc. I have a feeling that Skjei isn't going to turn out to be the sharpest knife in the drawer.

BTW, Pionk is the player all you people desperately want ADA to be.

If this team is serious about tanking, just keep dressing Marc Staal. I wish I could find a way to get paid as much as he does to be as bad as he is at doing it, whatever it is.

I would have liked to fire the coach before dismantling the team, sure.

But I'm also disappointed in how a lot of guys have looked without AV, Buchnevich being chief among them.
The Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich hype last year bugged me. Kreider would be able to drive play with two warm bodies. And if you have a line that drives play and barely scores with checking line guys, that's great! If it's supposed to be your three most skilled guys, and it's covered up in people's minds because they're usually on the power play together, uh...

There's a few issues with this team.
Staal needs to be the 7th guy the rest of the year. I'd even ask him to go to Hartford and if not sit him in the pressbox
ADA and Pionk need to play every game even if it means putting Smith and McQuaid on the left side. Let them make their mistakes and learn to make better defensive decisions.
I think Shatty is still getting back into shape after that injury. Knees take time to come back from. When I tore my ACL it took me about a year to get full motion back.
Chytil needs to go log some big minutes in Hartford for 30-40 games and come back after Christmas.
Hayes and Zucc should not be on the same line. Put zucc with howden as a second line. Move Hayes up when he decides to go on a hot streak.
Dont break up KZB again.. I dont understand why they keep doing it.

I had no problem with Skjei going after Andersson but Brady was absolutely at fault for the hit on Zucc. Zucc turning up the ice into the hit almost as soon as he received the puck. The guy making that pass should not be leading the receiver of the pass right into a hit like that. Andersson kind of turtled there but really he wasn't in a great position to defend himself.
