I'd respect Pitt a lot more if they embraced the old 90's Bud Ice Penguin as their logo

Dooobie doobie doooo

Not a fan of Geo playing over Shesterkin. Geo is a solid backup, but let's be real here--this isn't a goaltending "competition." If Georgiev beats Shesterkin for the starting spot, then we need to add "starting goaltender" to our list of holes on the roster. These aren't young rookies with no track record. We know what they've been and what they are likely to be. Geo is a solid backup who is a roll of the dice to either stand on his head or shit the bed. Shesterkin, aside from this season, has been a dominant starting goalie at every level. He needs to be the starter and needs to get used to getting leaned on and playing a lot of games. Pretending like this is an actual competition for that role is doing a disservice to both players.

how does a coach not realize this?
because he's in over his head

giving Kakko the last shift of regulation is a major slap in the face. There was 18 seconds left, tie-game, Kakko has only recieved 9+ minutes of ice time so far... He puts him out there with 18 seconds in the defensive zone... That's setting him up for failure. What's Kakko thinking internally?

This happens way more than you'd think.

They've got a lot to manage, and they don't have the team TOI on their tablets as the highest priority.

The top-6 was also playing very well that game, so it's not a surprise that Quinn played them more in a game that they were dominating. This has been his MO for two years now, and I'm not sure people get continuously surprised when he does it.

I take it as a positive note that Quinn realizes Kakko is playing well and that he should get the bump in TOI he deserves in the near future. He already switched PP2 to have both Laf and Kakko on and said that they'll get deployed more. Now, the underlying issue is that Trouba will be manning this unit when it should be one of Fox or Tony, but I've already posted a bunch on that and am not diving into it more.

Yeah, it happens. Definitely far from the egregious forgetfulness in the elimination game of the 2nd round of playoff to let the our best performing D pair sit on a bench while leaving struggling Staal when the game was being decided.

Re. PP2 and Trouba - as long as he simply moves puck side to side and let Lafreniere and Kakko run PP - it should be ok.

The logo is also far superior to that goofy ass cartoon they have now
I think it’s a nostalgia thing for me at least. I definitely like the stripes and layout better on the og one as well. But like I said all being a kid feeling seeing it as much as I hated the pens and yeah, I always hated Lemuix after that series where Graves was suspended for the slash. I was 12, lol.

Quinn hates Kakko it’s obvious . Almost as much as he hates Gauthier

Honestly, I do think it is something that unfortunately happens sometimes (not just the nhl level and esp with penalties).... however, I will also say that a good assistant should notice if the HC doesn't, so this is really a reflection of the coaching staff overall, not just Quinn imo.

He doesn't do that though, which is why I'd prefer Fox and Tony run both units. Trouba takes an absolutely absurd amount of shots on the powerplay: this year, he's had shot attempts at equivalent rates to Mika and more than Panarin; last year, he was third behind those two. Since those are primarily point shots, he's consistently forcing the powerplay into low-percentage shots, which is just a total waste of the special teams IMO.

I am surprised Quinn even let him off the bench to celebrate Laffys game winning goal... SMH

Well, Trouba is supposed to be a big shot option. The question is when to use it.

How about some over/unders:

Number of Kakko reverse hits - 2.5
Number of ZBad one-timer whiffs - 1.5
Number of Lafreniere quality scoring chances - 2.5
Number of time Miller erases Crosby - 2.5

Over
Over
Over
Under

Watching the Devils game this afternoon and seeing them allow Hughes to play minutes whether he is struggling or thriving.

This is how you develop players Quinn. Instead of bouncing them up and down lines and calling them out for no reason.

I would let Blackwell center Laf and Kk.
Drop Howden to 4th line center.

Mika was actually good last game, Ullmark robbed him of 2 points. Hopefully he’s warming up.
My brother had Covid-19 and he said in his experience it was fatigue that bothered him most. took him a month to feel normal. After 2 weeks he was doing normal activities but just didn’t have his normal energy. I wonder if Mika was going thru something similar. He looks much better last game.

Why why isn’t Igor starting? What is he 50 years old and not capable of playing every other day?
