Winning this way is more luck and unsustainable. Husso kept us in this game until our offense finally woke up. Without that LaCombe's awareness of the puck and punch to the puck to prevent a potential goal within the last six seconds, then we lose in regulation. But it's the same Ducks story often this season, which is why we have 9 comeback wins this year, tied with Calgary. Lots of individual effort going on than scheming, especially from our youths.

I don't want Cronin back. Calgary also suffers offensively, but they won't make the playoffs. I don't see that changing much next season for us either with Cronin at the helm.

Christ almighty did that Vatrano goal juice Strome and Frankie's metrics. They were bad and somehow top 2.

Strange that no matter what goalie is in net, they bail the team out.

Who knew Husso just had to put on a ducks jersey to be a super star.

The play on ice was terrible for the Strome line, but they weren't scored upon. Vatrano's goal and +1 rating for his line boosted them up statistically. The dark green shade represents individual offensive effort. Without those individual efforts at the end of the game, then almost everyone probably would be in the negative side of the chart.

Most of us were falling asleep in the first two and 3/4 of the game because the game was boringly bad. Afterwards, we got a shot of C-crack (Carlsson & Cutter) and then we're breaking bad. ::: ba da bump tshhhhhhhhh ::: I'll see my way out.

It did feel like that was game. He had something extra as he exited the D zone

The funny thing about that is Zell and Cutter slowed down for Carlsson. Zell was ahead of Carlsson, slowed down to keep even with Carlsson, and then bolted to the front of the net once Carlsson carried the puck into the Ozone. Cutter was even with Carlsson in the Dzone, but purposed slowed down to give Carlson two layers of passing options. You can see Cutter coasting into the middle of the ice for Carlsson to find him when Carlsson pulled up.

All three were so fast that they created a 3v2 just by speed alone.

I think there's no question that without the incredible goaltending we've gotten we'd be right there with Chicago in the standings, looking at another dreary offseason. But, we got what we got, and the goalies have given the kids a chance to perform in clutch situations, games that are tied late, OT games etc. And they've taken to it. There's real development there, not exactly coach-led but it's there all the same.

Cutter calls Leo a great teammate and great friend. Dude's been touting their friendship since he first got to Anaheim. Love that.

Lmao Leo was better than Vatrano, but whatever.
3 stars should be
Gauthier
Carlsson
Husso

Husso could even get bumped up to 2, he was left with no goal support for 80% of the game.

I do wonder if Cutter being born in Sweden helps him bond with Leo, since he might be curious about what life is like there. Whatever the reason for their friendship, I hope Cutter convinces Leo to workout with him in the offseason - pretty sure Cutter had a really impressive showing at the combine which buoyed his draft stock?

Every time I hear the stats about the ducks having so many comeback wins, I can't help but think "that's because we were behind in so many games." And there's truth in that for sure. But it is also true they play hard.

It would be great if the coaches could get the team ready so they don't fall behind so often. #nextyeargoal

Couldn't watch this one but holy hell that OT goal was electric. We all know Leo is fast but i think that's the fastest I've ever seen him skate. And what a finish by Cutter! It's been so long since we've had a guy that can shoot the puck like that. Z's goal was a snipe too, it feels like he hasn't shot the puck like that since the Eakins days.

Those final mins of that game was probably one of the best moments of this season. As soon as Cutter was figuring it out should have been stapled to Leo. But both were still adjusting to the NHL, and Leo was also injured in the first half of the year.

You put a sniper on Leo’s line, and look what happens. But the thing is Leo is dangerous also when he shoots.

We rake on Killorn but Leo and Cutter have become the Ducks best defensive forwards next to Killorn. I give him a lot of credit for that. The points will keep coming for those two, but have to fix the PP, if they are ever going to really take off.

I'm sure most picked up on this, but my favorite play in this game that showed Leo's next level hockey IQ was his play on the entry on Gauthier's game-tying goal. He wins the faceoff and then quickly starts slash skating toward the near corner of the offensive zone. That forces the defender to skate in that direction so when Killorn hits Leo with the entry pass, the defender's momentum is moving away from the middle of the ice. If Leo had tried to handle the puck, that probably gives the defender enough time to reset his momentum or possibly get close enough for a pokecheck, forcing Leo to lose speed and allowing the rest of the Flames defense to catch up and provide help. Or it requires Leo to make an aerial backhand pass to Gauthier past two defenders, which is a very low percentage play.

Instead, Leo allows the puck to continue its trajectory, but slows it enough with a touch to allow himself to change direction at full speed and handle the puck on the forehand, taking his defender out of the play and creating a mini 2-on-1 out of nothing. He knew Gauthier would be coming with speed down the wing and just had to lay the puck in front of him.

It was the exact right series of decisions executed with incredible athleticism (which we saw more of on the game-winning goal). Leo's been trying these sorts of plays since his career began last year. But he didn't always execute on them, probably because he's still young and learning how to make these plays at NHL speed and because he hasn't had a winger like Gauthier who could take advantage of these types of plays. But now that Leo has Gauthier on his wing and is clearly playing with more confidence, we should be excited to see this type of thing for many years.

Leo is awesome.
