Why not just play a proven NHL player rather than a guy that might just be a complete disaster. Too late in the season to hope the AHL people are ready to take the mantle of production

Fast was fine in his short stint at the beginning of the year. He is defensively responsible, a good skater, and unlike Carcillo, actually has decent hockey sense. All I've heard is good things about his progression in Hartford.

Miller is a natural center. I like his game but he looks a bit uncomfortable on the wing. He needs to be playing top line center minutes in the AHL until there's a spot open for him in NY.

I hope Carcillo has a big game just to prove me wrong, but he shouldn't be anywhere other than the 4th line.

Don't forget we have proven NHL first-liners like Asham and Powe in HFD...:sarcasm:

Or just move Richards to LW where he played very well to start the season.

Wow. OK then av... Let's go carbomb...

For some reason this reminds me of earlier in the season when we had pyatt on the first line...

Oh dear God

I hate to say it, but if there's one game we can "hide" Carcillo it's against Edmonton. I still don't like Fast not getting a chance.

There's no ELC slide for AHL players. It's considered being in the pros already.

Fast is 22. His contract doesn't slide.

edit: Hmm after looking it up, it looks like it's only dependent on age and NHL games played. Good to know.

If a player aged 18 or 19 signs an entry-level contract with a club (with his age calculated on Sept. 15 of the year he signed the contract) but does not play in at least 10 NHL games — regular season or playoffs — the contract will "slide" or be extended one year. The extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the year he signed the contract.
Depending on the contract's structure, the player's cap hit can be affected either by an increase or a decrease. Players who sign at age 18 can have their contract extended (or "slide") two seasons.

Maybe they aren't willing to burn a year of his ELC?

It was clearly a mistake with Kreider IMO.

How was it a mistake with Kreider. Without him we don't get past round one or two. If you were ever to look at a GOOD example of burning an ELC year, that was it.

Pretty sure AHL games don't matter. If the player is 19 or younger at Januray 1st in the first season of his contract and plays less than 10 NHL games, the contract slides.

Fast is 22 so his ELC year is burned already.

Edit: I see you aldready looked it up :)

I think the plays AV was annoyed at Miller for in the second period were three instances where Miller got the puck outside the tops of the circles, didn't look to pass or make a play and took a shot each time and each time the puck went over the net and out of the zone.

Even still, I'd have tried Miller in Kreider's spot before Carcillo. Sure, Carcillo is a proven player, but it's just going to lead to AV juggling lines later in the game anyway. You think if we're down by a goal that Carcillo should get as much ice time as Stepan and Nash? And be out there with them? He just doesn't have the skill to be out there with them. It's like when Pyatt was on the line with Nash. Not good enough to keep up and fumbled so many opportunities.

I guess we'll see, but even with his mistakes, I'd still rather have tried Miller on the line with Stepan and Nash before reaching this point.

Miller's going to be a good player, but at this point in the season, there's no time for patience/learning curves.

However, Carcillo on the 1st line is not the right move to combat that. I also don't think Fast is. I don't like how AV goes full Torts after a crap loss. Especially coming off a 5 game win streak in which half our team had the flu.

Is it possible that AV is trying to throw EDM off with these lines? Perhaps juggle them within the game to whatever he initially intended...

It's not like it's difficult to out-coach Mr. "oh-so-big and bad" Eakins

Also, Carcillo's being asked to play his off-wing. has he ever done that? Hopefully this experiment will last one full period. It's such a dumb thing.

no he is not..
