My favorite team won and I enjoyed it. Bobby Brink looks really good. Walker is pleasantly surprising. Sanheim has had an amazing start to the season. Couturier and Atkinson were added for free, and both look pretty good. Konecny is a legit 1st line winger. Gauthier and Michkov are down the road.
Captain Dave Poulin (HFboards Sponsor) threatened to beat me up. Great night of hockey.
IF Walker stays healthy you might have a shot at walker(50%) and a pick (say a4th) for a late 2. Gm's go bonkers for dmen at deadline. 3 more likely.
Very good game Brink. Foerster waiting for the demotion. Torts cant handle this much youth.
Cam is not a pp1 anymore but he has played well. If he played well enough to trade this year what a dream scenario.
Sanheim can score if you let him loose. SHOCKER.
Waiting for the defense of Torts when Mete is in and Z is scratched.
Couts is really really good. First big exhale this season is Couts is back.

Sanheim has officially taken over as leader of this defense and I love it. I don't like a lot, but it's nice to finally see something looking like a legitimate number one defenseman on this club. This man swallowed serious shit from this organization and their piss poor usage of him, so it's nice to see his come uppance. I just want something to enjoy this season and I'm loving all world Sanheim.
Sanheim sucked last year, some was coming off an injury, some was probably the pressure of living up to his new contract. Not everything is the organization's fault.

Give Sanheim credit, he sucked it up, worked his ass off to get bigger and stronger, and came into this season with a new attitude - he's much more aggressive, making things happen instead of passively waiting around.

This "old' team played Brink (22), Tippett (24), Cates (24), Foerster (21), Poehling (24), Farabee (23), York (22), Zamula (23), Hart (24).

Sanheim is gonna puke if someone mentions he “put on 20 lbs of muscle” again..

Maybe that’s the game plan… ask about his newly added mass in every interview/intervention so he keeps it on 😂

Who said anything about last season? How about Sanheim's misuse by Hakstol and Vigneault? Or how about Scott Gordon had no clue how to develop him? Or how this organization always deferred to Provorov and Sanheim was basically seen as a second fiddle to him? Or how about wanting to get rid of him but couldn't because Krug didn't want to come to Philadelphia? He wasn't wanted. That's terrible shit to swallow. This franchise did the same thing to Simon Gagne and did the same thing to Claude Giroux. No, Sanheim definitely swallowed shit.

I don't think they'll cease to draft and/or seek trades, though.

So, in theory, if you have good forward depth plus an elite and quasi-elite talent, a decent-to-better defense, and really good goaltending...you can kinda be a competitor.

My thinking is they're eyeing a return to the past close-but-no-cigar model. Jones has stressed making it an attractive place to play again, the locker room reno, all that. I think they're planning to try to draft a couple stars, go buy another couple in FA, trade for some aging #2 defenseman, and let the second round exits and Conference Final bummers rip.
If they add Michkov and Gauthier, and continue to draft and trade, then you have set yourself up to basically repeat the last decade with one elite player, a few good players, a defence that isn't good enough, and will be just as mediocre . That team had an elite Giroux, and drafted a ton from 2011 to 2021. And the team you see in front of you is the result.

If it wasn't in our better interest to be losing games, I'd say this team feels like a lite version of 2011-12.

Exciting team so far. Tortorella needs to find a way to get Frost out there with the rest of the team.

I mean, if they repeat the same mistakes, sure. If they make newer, more bombastic mistakes...

Just curious... if you had that 2011-2021 team, but you add a legit goalie (like let's say 2x Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky) do you think they could've won a title? I do.

Everyone at HFBoards wants to plan for 5-10 years into the future but often times, the teams that actually win the cup are opportunistic. I'm not going to sweat the prospect of our team continuing to play good hockey. It wouldn't do any good.

I wouldn't be mad if we end up in the top 5 of the draft this year and then again next year too. But I also won't be mad to see guys like TK and Sanheim and Brink continue to play the way they're playing and drive us to a little better finish. There shouldn't be any adding at the trade deadline and ideally we'll look to move vets like Atkinson and Coots and Walker if they prove to be valuable trade chips.

The organization trying as hard as they could to move on from him due to one down year is definitely their fault.

i refuse to watch this garbage until they bring back frostyboy.

sanheim is cracked and we've known it for years. Glad they're letting him cook. Shame it took 10 years.

It's hard for me to assume the fun will last.

1) they always start hot then bomb
2) there has been a lot of questionable competition; injury gutted wild, Vancouver, Columbus, reeling Edmonton.
3) they were similar offensively when they went on a scoring run in the middle of the season. Then Tortorella whined about how they were playing and vowed to stop it and get back to "proper" hockey and the fun died.

But hey, Brink/Farabee/Sanheim are a blast though.

I very much remember how we were hot to start the last few seasons. It was very obviously smoke, mirrors, luck, and a hot goalie. It was clearly gonna come crashing down. I have trouble believing that this team remains half as good as they've been so far this season, BUT, they have actually genuinely deserved to win most of their games this season. I don't think it lasts. I hope it doesn't. For the long term, I hope they finish bottom 5 and get rid of Atkinson, Laughton, and a couple vet D for assets.

I am just saying that there is something a little different about this season - not that it's a good thing to finish in a middling spot in the standings. It's fun to watch the brink, farabee line. It's maddening that Frost isn't in the lineup.

They have a younger, deeper core than 2015-16.

B Schenn (24), Ghost (22), Couts (23), Laughton (21), Gudas (25), Cousins (22)
The only players 25 and under on that team
Sanheim, Provorov, TK and Lindblom in the pipeline
From 2016-18 they would add Hart (2019), Cates (2022), Frost (2022) and Farabee (2019).

This team has 9 starters 25 and under, plus Frost
Andrae, Michkov, Gauthier, Bonk in the pipeline
(2) 1sts, (2) 2nds in the 2024 draft
