This pick is growing on me. Slight reach (I had him pegged to go to Florida at 13) but not a big deal. Clearly Yzerman really likes him and that's good enough for me. He does have some nice tools to work with, skating is actually really good for his size. Hoping they send him to GR this year.

I enjoyed all of Seider's post draft interviews. He seems very charismatic, great character kid. He is such a raw player and I really liked what I saw from him at the Worlds
Just came to post the same thing, kid's intelligent.
I can't wait to watch him in the dev camp game next week. I didn't watch very much on him but I was telling my Canucks fan buddy who was worried about drafting him the other day that he's a big responsible 2-way right handed D man that can skate, what's so bad about that?

my main concern at this point looking at this pick is Yzermans weak drafting history in the first round at Tampa

not gonna lie reaching on a guy like this in light of that scares me a little bit,Koekkoek was another defenseman Yzerman drafted that was something of a reach in the top 10 and that one didn't turn out well at all

Not a Wings fan, but coming in to say I think this was a fantastic pick. Seider is remarkably well rounded for his situation learning the game overseas. This guy has elite upside, without a doubt. I don’t think he’s far away from the NHL either. Yzerman off the board magic tonight.

Had him #7 on my list.

One more thing about Seider. While his point production leaves a lot to be desired it should be noted that he played in a pro league for the German champions. Heck he himself even mentioned that being a rookie d-man he initially focused on being defensively responsible in order to earn more ice-time, and only as he gained more confidence did he become more involved in the offense.

I recall reading some speculation that Buffalo was high on Seider, maybe why Yzerman decided against it.
Considering that J.D.Burke was right about Detroit really liking Seider, I assume he was also right about him fielding calls to move back. Must really like this kid to not take any potential deal he had.

Wonder if Yzerman didn't draft Seider if Holland would have taken him at 8th overall instead of Broberg.
Listening to a podcast leading up the draft the host said Edmonton was locked onto Broberg. Wasn't sure what to make of it at the time but that ended up being the case. Did they actually like Seider more? We'll probably never know. I remember reading that Buffalo was hopping mad when we selected Riley Sheahan in front of them.

I will reserve judgement on this until 5 years from now. I personally would have taken Zegras. Either this was a great pick or a terrible stay tuned to find out.

"I don't call him an offensive guy. I think he's a good, solid two-way guy. I think he can play the power play, he can walk the line and get his head up, get his shot through. I think he'll play with your top players and play against your top players because he can move the puck. He's not going to be Erik Karlsson weaving through traffic and all that but he can skate it, he can pass it. So I think he has some ability to play in offensive situations but I don't want to create this illusion that he's an offensive guy. I think he's going to be a player that can play in all situations."

6th overall? Makes me physically ill.

My initial reaction was: Deflation, totally deflated as I heard the pick announced, as I knew the least about him. After reading more about his style it only makes it slightly better, as nothing stands out as elite or top end, it all just sounds good, which to me is not a good pick so high in the draft.

I have heard he is a mix of Werenski/Jones, but his scouting report(s) doesn't suggest anything overly exciting that you would use a 6th overall on.

Sounds like they really really like him, if Steve was taking him 6th or 35th, but still. Broberg sounds risky too, but he looks like a much more exciting player if it all works out. Seider sounds more like a reliable 2 way type, that doesn't wow you.

Sounds kinda like Alex Pietrangelo.
