Can someone explain the logic of Dorsett over Miller THIS game?

Miller was returned to Hartford. He cannot be on the roster right now because the Max number of players on a roster is 23 (including goalies) with 13 forwards + 8 defensemen + 2 goalies is our 23 man roster. Unless a player is on IR or maybe an emergency basis (don't know the restrictions/qualifications for this), he can't be on the Rangers roster the rest of the year, well I guess a player could be sent down, but probably won't happen since most players on the roster would need to go through waivers first.

Carolina has a game in hand on us. We lose this game, that's yet another team within striking distance. Games like this stick out in your memory if you miss the playoffs. Let's win, k?

They provide different things to the team. If we didn't have Dom Moore (thank God we do), a fourth line of Carcillo - Boyle - Dorsett would bash brothers the hell out of people.

Not trying to jump into a debate here, however, from what I saw against the Flyers, I didn't think our 4th line was nearly as effective as it has been, or anywhere near as decent as I thought that line might have been. Only one game, I know, but I'd say that BB is far more suited to be playing as a winger these days. Especially on a AV team.

Hm. I disagree. They're different players. I think I trust Dorsett more. Carcillo has impressed me, but I still hate the guy. I guess I'm biased

Carcillo is better at thoroughly distracting the other team. I also think he has more speed.
Dorsett is more responsible defensively, when used correctly, and I think he's better along the boards in the offensive zone.

I'll give you the defensively aspect, but I would say that slightly at even strenght. He also is a decent penalty killer, which Carcillo isn't.

That being said, the offensive instincts really aren't close. Carcillo is just a more fine tuned player then Dorsett. He has way more skill and suits this team better.

I hated Carcillo when he came over, but he has done nothing but play well for this team.

I don't really think it's close as to who has been better for them this year.

The 2013 CBA abolished roster limits after the trade deadline.

He had to be on the AHL roster by the deadline to be eligible to play in the AHL for the remainder of the season. That said, the Rangers are free to call him up whenever.

i wonder if Sather tried to trade Dorsett after the Diaz deal, to get Miller back up but no takers. why not waive Dorsett?? Jackets fans actually liked this guy and he wore the A for them. he has not been good as a Ranger at all.. :help:

False, no roster limit of 23 players after the deadline.

According to Article 16 Section 4, the 23-man roster limit is in place from the conclusion of the preseason until 12:01 am on the day of the NHL’s Trade Deadline. After that teams are allowed to have an unlimited active roster at the NHL level, provided players are signed to one of their 50 contract slots (note: players assigned back to their junior clubs do not count towards the 50).

Yeah, last time we had that line it cost us at least a point against the Flyers.

still dont get why Miller was sent down, maybe Sather forgot about that rule :help: he was playing well when he was here. stupid decision...

Only players recalled from the AHL after the trade deadline are eligible to be sent back down. So if the Rangers didn't at least "paper" him back to the minors before 3pm Wednesday, he would have been stuck in the NHL for the rest of the season.

Yea, he had to be "hypothetically" sent down, but the fact that he wasn't "called up" 5 minutes later is ridiculous.

He was one of our best players since Zucc was out. The 3rd line barely missed a step, shockingly.

Then you put a plug like Dorsett there and the chemistry disappears. Terrible overthinking by AV and co.

so he was playing well with Brassard and Pouliot and was playing so much better than Dorsett... Miller should be back up here..

Yeah, they should have papered him down before 3pm and papered him back up after 3pm. But when Zucc comes back, he's the odd man out. So it was important to have him on the AHL roster at 3pm. He needs ice time wherever he can get it.

I'd love to give Miller some time centering MSL though. Throw Kreider on that line too. That would make losing those draft picks well worth it. Hell, make all the rookies stay at MSL's house over the summer. They'll help with the chores and shuttling his boys to and from hockey practice. Then work out with him.

I agree with this. Crosby/Lemieux style.

This is such an underrated aspect of trading for a veteran player. Especially a player like MSL. He'll do wonders for the young guys and Zucc just by being around him and learning from him every day.

Similar to Drury/Callahan, and Redden when he was in Hartford.

Having visions of this happening

so that is where Callahan learned to get a rich contract from :help:

Yea, i mean i'm not married to this deal, but letting Cally go was the right thing.

That being said, this team is nothing like those of the late 90's. It's built on the backs of some very young guys, or guys who are in the middle of their primes.

While the picks will hurt, in this cap world we live in, having MSL around for a couple of years to advise and push Kreider, Miller, Hags, Zucc, Stepan and hopefully Fast, Lindberg, Kristo, etc, can only be a good thing.

This isn't a guy who came here to retire.

No Miller and Zucc isn't ready to come back yet? Neat. I can't wait to get Zucc back.

Wasn't that the line in practice? Zucc Richards St Louis? Talk about skill on your wings. I have a feeling they get split up (and they probably should) to even out the lines a bit. And for the love of God AV please try putting Kreider with one of them. I've been over this 1st line for a while now and Kreids would flourish with a St Louis on his line.

Would really like to see:

Hags-Step-Nash
Kreider-Richards-MSL
Pouliot-Brassard-MZA
Boyle-Moore-Carcillo

Kreider is a finisher, but he defers to the vet if there's another, more established finisher on his line, as we've seen with Nash. Hags has the same speed as Kreider, but is more of a puck retriever who has worked well with Nash in the past. MSL is a great distributor, who can adjust to anyone on his line.

Have Hags go get the puck for Stepan & Nash. Have MSL & Richards play off one another and force-feed Kreider for shots. Also distributes size more evenly throughout the lineup. Seems obvious, no?

Yeah it'd be nice to bury them right here. We could pretty much end their season in the next 5 days.
