Please enlighten me as I only have crude knowledge of how the tier system works in Sweden.

For a newly drafted prospect that develops in Sweden for ~three years, what would we hope for as far as league progression?

For instance, assuming the team is in the SHL:

Year 1 after being drafted - J20/SHL
Year 2 - SHL
Year 3 - SHL - I'm inclined to think that this player is quite battle tested.

Whereas someone who was more along the lines of:

Year 1 - J20
Year 2 - J20
Year 3 - SHL - A normal, but promising progression?

First of all, SHL is not a development leauge. You don't get icetime just because you've been drafted in a high position.
That being said, the focus is on icetime. A promising player usually gets chances early on to train with and also backfill the SHL team but the bulk of the time is spent in J18, J20 or even HockeyAllsvenskan to make sure that the player both plays alot but also is guided towards playing against grown men as soon as possible instead of juniors.

Färjestad has in general alot of patience with their players and don't rush them. It's very rare that someone like Albert takes such a big place on the SHL team pretty much the first year. He only dressed for 3 games the 18/19 season only to be a major part of the team 19/20.

Grigorenko, Ryno and the late Stefan Liv were the only three I can remember being really rattled about. We have seen NA guys fail at a similar clip for sure. I will never forget how quickly I soured on Sproul after the first couple of times I saw him in person, he actually was they way people describe Brendan Smith on this board. I have never really seen a more gifted toolset with absolutely no hockey brain attached to it, if he was Swedish and went home we would talk about him like some lost project though is a part of the point in my opinion. Some of these guys had pretty long odds of really making it, especially into the kind of players we were hoping for.

Sproul went with Jake Chelios to Beijing of KHL where they were.... meh.

Its basically a team of NA AHL caliber players.

Paywall but really good article. This kid is a sleeper, I hope he booms.

Red Wings prospect Albert Johansson surpasses expectations in the SHL
Red Wings prospect Albert Johansson surpasses expectations...

Just a little tidbit.

Of course, when he arrives in North America (whenever that may be), Johansson will want to have bolstered his physicality. Färjestad’s team page lists him at 6 feet and just under 170 pounds, which leaves plenty of room to fill out in order to hold up against more physical play some day. Pennerborn, for what it’s worth, said he has seen progress in that department from Johansson since the early offseason began, noting, “I look at his legs and his body and he’s coming (along) really good. So that will not be an issue for the future.”
The other point of emphasis will be on Johansson’s shot. For as much as his skating and poise are good bedrock traits for Johansson’s game, adding that element would bring an important new threat.
“He has to put the puck on net more,” Pennerborn said. “His shot has to develop more. His passing and his skills and his way to (move) the puck and carry the puck, no problem. But his shot has to develop more.”

Good to hear.

No news in a number sense but the focus for the 20/21 season bodywise is to bulk up on muscles according to a news article.

I did a little digging on Eliteprospects and found that his father (former NHLer Roger Johansson) and his 2 brothers who play D1/2 hockey in Sweden are all above 6'2". I think that bodes well for those who are worried about Albert's size.

That's what Hakan told everyone on draft day. There's a chance Albert turns out to be 6'1 or 6'2. And if he's an elite skating, 6'2 puck moving defenseman - that's pretty sweet.

Sanderson-Hronek
Johansson-Seider
McIsaac-Tuomisto/Lindstrom

Let that defense mature and start loading up on young forwards.

That's conceivably 6-7 Top 4 D (in their primes). I could see Lindstrom being a reliable #4 someday.

I respectfully disagree. I think PoolParty busts or becomes 3rd liner 30-35+ type. Cholo may end up a #4PMD w/below avg. D. I'm not a fan of unproven players being prima donna's, even Lindros at the time.

I guess.
I remember people calling Blake Wheeler a spoiled punk when he didn't sign with Phoenix. Look at him now.

Anyway, I don't give a f***.
But if the Wings do land a potential #1, I think Cholo could become trade bait. Not sure there are lot of options for it though.

It's also conceivably 2-3 Top 4 defensemen. D-men prospects - even highly rated ones - miss fairly often,
Of course, that's a given.

If I were to say as of today, I think Seider, McIsaac are Top4 certainties. Hronek is already a Top 4D. So that's 3 right there. I like the odds of 2 of the 4 remaining to become Top 4D, either in DET and/or elsewhere (assuming no career ending/threatening injuries a la Svech, Grigorenko 02-03 etc). I'll pick Tuomisto & Johansson...mainly b/c they're already ours. Sanderson will likely be elsewhere anyway, so moot point.

Sanderson
Johansson
Tuomisto
Lindstrom

Cholo better start defending + producing pts + not be a huge liability & studying more video etc. or he's trade bait in 1 yr.

Can anyone help me out on trying to find some video of this guy? I’m really interested in Albert but I can’t find film on him at all. I’ve looked through YouTube and watched the clips people have posted on here but that’s it.

Thought this was gonna be his coming out party, instead it was elmers oh well.
The whole team had to deal with Broberg being injured the whole time, and I'm sure the defense corps had to work much harder than they had anticipated at the start of the tournament. Sweden just looked like they were gassed.
