I probably would've retained Stu in a less impactful role. Sure he made some braindead picks in the 2nd rounds and lower, but he has nailed picks as well (Eberle). Morey Gare should've been gone a long time ago.

You'd retain him because of one pick (a first rounder) 7 years ago? Eberle is literally the only full time NHLer that Stu has drafted outside of first overall picks.

Marincin looked like he might become one. He went sideways. Lander and Klefbom look like they might, but Marincin is a pretty good example of how its possible they might not.

I'm not sure what goes on behind closed doors but remember when the Oilers were split between picking Jenner or Musil? One of two things probably happened:

1. Half wanted Jenner and half wanted Musil. Stu folded and didn't take control of the situation.

2. Majority wanted Jenner but Stu went with his guy in Musil anyways.

Either way he either lacks balls or is a terrible scout. You need both to be successful in the NHL.

This could be a tell that some of the draft picks will be traded. There might already be deals in place but they won't be announced until on the draft floor for entertainment purposes.

Not head scout, you're right.

Boston's head scout is actually Wayne Gretzky's brother. Who knew?

That one is on Tambo. He mandated a defenseman because he felt that he already had a Centre in Lander.

I think Stauffer indicated that the scouts wanted Jenner but Tambo insisted on taking a D at pick 31.

Went need over BPA.

Do you have a source for this?

I have to say I found the whole pick process highly suspicious, I know in the Oil Change series they had a closed door meeting to discuss who to take in the 2nd round without Frank Musil there. To me, your list should be cemented in place at that point, you shouldn't be having meetings to discuss who to take in the 2nd round when you have the first pick in that round, if you are having discussions it should only be with respect to trade scenarios or who you think might go where based on 1st round results just to gameplan a little better for later rounds. To me it's clear someone intervened and made the decision to go with Musil's kid just cause of the family connection, if he was really the next highest person on our list you shouldn't need to have a closed door meeting to discuss it.

With that being said, do you still not want him based on the list that I provided? IMO that is a pretty solid list. Seguin was a given, but most of the other picks are at the very least average. Truth be told I'd welcome him as an OHL scout as that's a pretty solid list.

I just think that anyone who thought Nikitin was a good addition needs to be fired and banished from any kind of job in hockey forever.

If that was Gare then fine, good riddance, but if it was Howson and/or McTavish, they need to go work in a car wash or something.

I'd think Chiarelli would be smart enough to realize the optics of the situation. I think Mike Chiarelli ends up here eventually but doubt it's this season.

Why should Thompson be fired? Be all accounts is a good teacher, a good video coach and did a good job in OKC. I'd guess McLellan made the call on keep him around.

Exactly, what has he done to deserve the axe?

No OHL picks

Honestly, that's a pretty good resume. Seguin and Hamilton were top-10 picks that definitely worked out, arguably better than expected. Khokhlachev, Subban, and Spooner are three of their better prospects. Camara and Knight are their only top-100 drafted OHL kids to not work out. Pretty good result to be honest. Not mind-blowing, but pretty good.

And why not? I don't give two ****s about the optics now that I've looked at his track record. He scouted all of the regular season and most of the postseason before getting turfed. It couldn't hurt to add him IMO.

Boston's head scout for the majority of Chia's tenure as GM in Boston. Fired when his brother was. They didn't piss a drop outside of the first round for as long as he was there.

Head scout hey? During the majority of Chia's tenure?

Pffft.

Ryan Spooner says hi. David Pastrnak looks like a pretty good pick. Khokhlachev could be decent too.

The manure pile keeps growing higher and higher.
