56 games how many games does Matthews get?

It would be 3 more than his last season pace. He had 7 more goals in 14 more games last year and his career average is more than 0.5 G/GP so it isnt some huge stretch.
40 might be doable if thats the case then. I’m hoping 40 then. Agreed with 35 minutes ago but thats doable for him

Career numbers vs Canadian teams.

GP-59 G-36 A-28 P-64

I wouldn't be surprised if he came away with that exact stat line, except with three fewer GP.

Last time he had 4 months off for an offseason, he showed up with an elite one-time added to his toolkit. I'd wait until we see him in camp and know what we're dealing with to make predictions.

Van: Holty, Demko (4th)
Ed: Koskinen, Smith (6th)
Cal: Markstrom, Rittich (3rd)
Winn: Hellibuyck. Brossoid (2nd)
Ott: Murray, Nilsson (5th)
Mont: Price, Allen (1st)

The goalies Matthews will face and how I have ranked their collective abilities. 1-4 I think are solid net minders. 5/6, questionable. 2/3rds of his games are going to be against solid net minders. If all goes well, I think this might be Matthews best year of his career. Age, line mates, the challenge of rising to an occasion, if he's invested this could be it. If it is, 40 in 56. If a Marner or Nylander, don't step up, if Matthews doesn't take the bull by the horns, if injury, etc., I'll go 32 in 56. He's a great player, but the stars need to align for Matthews if we want to go far.

Think Matthews gets about high 30s for the goals

I just feel bad for Ovi; he was on his way to create history for goals scored; but it doesn't look like it will happen anymore

I'm thinking a range of 33-38, factoring in such things as GP. I expect he'll settle in nicely over the PPG mark as well (up to the mid 60s).

That would be a 66 goal season in a full 82 which would be a top 20 goal scoring season all time before considering era adjustment.
Part of my reasoning for going with that number is Matthews history of starting each season with a lot of goals.

After the first three games of the 2019-20 season Matthews had already scored 5 goals.

Playing only 6 teams could be a benefit if the Leafs stay focussed all year. It will also depend on the schedule. Will Ottawa be tougher in the first half or second half of the season? I’m guessing, since they'll haven’t played in 10 months they’ll be full of p and v coming out of the gate. How do the B2B fall for them and opponents?

Either way, since he’s one of the top 5 players in the NHL, and his line mate is UFA at the end of the season, I’m saying he scores 35.

ETA. He seemed to play a lot bigger with Clifford in the lineup and that’s gone

I was curious about what Ottawa did in the off season. They seem to have loaded up with some tough, physical players. Seemed odd, but maybe their strategy anticipated the all Canadian division.

DJ Smith prefers that, maybe so Brady doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting, even though he seems to like to.

Leafs probably go 48-3-5 too eh. Leaf fans never fail, God damned hilarious the expectations you all have.
He bagged 40 in the first 56 games last year, and if you take his whole season pace from last year he’s around 37 in 56. suggesting he will pot 45+ pretty lofty expectations but I don’t see circling 40 as a goal for the season as being unreasonable.

I hope it isn't true, but I see injuries.

His body hasn't been the best to him. These long pauses and now short seasons (with more games in a shorter period of time) will not be friendly to Matthews.

I see 30 goals in 45 games.

I think his earlier injuries he was young and thought he was Superman leaving himself vulnerable to injury. Now he's smarter, stronger and knows when to expose his body and maybe take a chance. 56 games. 37 goals.

I think Matthews gets 54 games in 56 games,

Assuming poster meant goals I’ll go 35.

Ill go with 38, wouldn't be surprised if he hits over 40.

I'm curious on if an all Canadian division would get him more or less... Or if its just irrelevant.
