I've only been to a handful of games the last few years, but there was some good energy in the building tonight. And the Ducks deserved it. Best defense they've played all season.

I think that was the platonic ideal of a Cronin hockey game. An "Islanders Special." I'd rather see a bit more offense, but I'll take a deserved win over a good team any day.

Just got home from the game, really glad I went, my son loved it (as did I).
Just curious, did Johnston look goo-... Tolerable tonight? It seemed like I wasnt getting upset at him half as much as normal.
Hes had a strong last 2 games, as I thought he played arguably his best game against Montreal.

I don’t have an issue with him in the line up if he plays like he has the last 2 games.

Between him and Zegras the locker room cancer is strong… :eyeroll:

I’m still getting a Zegras jersey next month. If Verbeek trades him will likely take off a year from the Ducks even with some other favorite players of mine still here.

I know it’s about the team and not a player but continuous bad decisions by your GM will make anyone take a year off from their team, maybe even more sadly.

On the last crash the pond. Jake Rudolph said, despite Johnston being given the hard hat and praise by killorn and strome “ don’t think his fight changed anything at all, data shows fights don’t help the team directly after “ yet killorn and strome praised his fight as it gave them momentum. Maybe, just maybe, after the embarrassing finish to the Calgary game: our vets recognize that when we play physical and finish checks stand up for each other it’s good for morale maybe? Jake loves soccer, we get it. Soccer players don’t fight. But to dismiss veteran leadership saying that the fight helped boost the team is just cringe. And backing it up with “ well I don’t believe it had anything to do with anything and data backs that up” was next level
Cringe. Johnston last 2 games have been fine and the youngsters need to not feel like we get our asses kicked everytime if the game turns physical. To a man, everyone was checking last night. It was a clear effort made, even by Leo and leason. If only hockey was as easy as crunching the data for 15 minutes a day…

Another chance to get back to 500 Saturday v the hated kings ( kings play us on the second of back to back games) no excuse to not be ready to play our best game Saturday
It sounds like stomach flu is going around the league and maybe around the locker room (Terry, Gudas was a game time decision)

Not saying it will definitely happen but I certainly expect some sluggishness still

Luckily we have 3 some days off befire the kings game. And kings plays the stats the night before.

That's my plan for this game. However, the Ducks have been playing better since the Fowler trade, so there is hope. Zegras returning has been fun too. Seeing Jackson Lacombe seemingly improve after every game is another reason I may watch.
I called it :D. Seriously though, they played really well and of course the goaltending bailed out the Ducks yet again.

I was in the building last night too and I have to say as much as I know he's statistically one of our best players, I am absolutely done with Killorn's utter lack of hustle. He's drifting into Shattenkirk territory now.

I get that he assisted on Z's goal, which was great. But there were so many pucks he could have played if he'd only given half a s--t, and it was his boneheaded misfire that lead to Dallas' only goal. He's the antithesis of Vatrano, who works he butt off on every shift.

I'd love to know where they're getting that data and how it was analyzed. I did an admittedly quick search and found conflicting info. There's apparently one study that found shot rates go up for at least one team in the three minutes after a fight, consistently, so it supports the idea that fights can boost momentum. The study I found that allegedly proves fighting doesn't matter has questionable methodology: it's based on whether winning the fight leads to winning the hockey game. But losing fighters get credited for still waking their team up at times, so that seems shaky.

Seems fairly intuitive that every fight situation is different and some can fire up a team more than others (not to mention "making the team play better" and "making the team win" not actually being synonymous). When the team is literally saying "yeah that fight fired us up" you can probably take them at their word... unless you're invested in distilling all of hockey down into a set of soulless statistical rules that can be fully represented on a spreadsheet, like some people seem to be. Good luck with that.

Johnston should absolutely get big props for the last couple of games. If he would play (and fight) like that consistently I don't think much of anyone but the CTP guys would have an issue with him. And the fourth line had a ridiculous 77% xGF% last night anyway so even by their standards, looks fine to me.
