Interesting. So there are 3 guys on pace to break the KHL scoring record. Glad that one is a Detroit prospect, and hopefully the kid keeps on developing.
That list is for u22 seasons only, the guys ahead of him this year are all much older. Hes on pace for a historic season currently

I am not going to lie. At this point we really need this guy to hit.

If he did hit, it might save us from needing to offer Connor $80M-plus in a couple years just to think about signing. At the very least, it could discourage Yzerman from even considering extending DBC.

Buch has to sign soon if he's going to get a 3 year DLC. Got until Jan 1st. Then it will be a 2 year. That might very well be the reasoning behind the wait, with him having to buy himself out.

Buch is doing fine, but doing those records are nothing special, because the KHL level is nothing like in the old days. It's an easy league (in qualcomp) nowadays, probably worse than SHL and Swiss Leagues.

Yeah, I'm trying really hard not to get too excited. KHL is just not the same. All other European leagues got better after the war broke out aswell, which makes ASPs production special.

People will be pretty disappointed by Nishkin I reckon.

Scoring a side, Buch does pass the eye test, so I'm hopeful.

People saying this 1000 times doesn't change the fact it's false.

Explain.

You don't believe that removing 99% of Slovaks, Czechs, Swedes and Finns from the league makes it less competitive?

It's a less attractive league now than it was.

Hmm I'm not sure where you got that 99% from but here are the percentages of russian players by season (in the KHL):

- 2020-2021: 68.8%
- 2021-2022: 67.2%
- 2022-2023: 77.9% (season after the start of the invasion)
- 2023-2024: 77.4%
- 2024-2025: 75.3%

Sure they lost foreign players but it's still 25% of the players (this season) compared to the 32-33% from before the invasion. There were a lot of doubters of Michkov too when he was playing in a "weakened" KHL scoring against chinese goalies... look at him now. If you watch a KHL game, you'll see that it's far from as bad as people make it out to be. At least in my opinion!

Purely based on the stats Cossa, Buchelnikov and ASP are doing absolutely amazing in their respective leagues. How that translates to the NHL remains to be seen but the track record for those leagues, even in recent years, is obviously excellent.

Suppose it depends on how you look at it. Michkov has been good, but his KHL season was "historic", better than Ovie and Malkin.

He's having a good start to his NHL career, but far from historic. I'd wager he ends up with similar point total to Raymond's rookie year, around 60 points. It's good, but not as good as his KHL season indicated.

Probably, but then you have to think that all of Bedard, Carlsson and Fantilli are also not doing as well we thought they should, so none of them are doing anything historic. Point is, Michkov is doing well in the NHL after doing well in the KHL. These other players aren't doing better despite having prior NHL experience or dominating their respective league a season before that.

Hmm, i'm trying to figure out what we disagree on.

My point is that KHL is a weaker league, young players are therefore getting more chances than they did before. We are now seeing a lot of historic seasons from young players in the KHL... This then gets brought up to show how good that player is doing.

I mean, they're having historic seasons.

My point is that it should be taken with a grain of salt. Especially when you try to make comparisions to past players, and try to project how good a player will become.

Will good players still come out of the KHL, yes. Are we seeing a historically good young talents coming from Russia, unlikely IMO.

Ah ok, it seemed like you and Henkka were heavily downplaying the quality of the KHL, and maybe you were not and I misunderstood you. You had the 99% claim that I just wanted to put into context and show that it was not as drastic as you thought it was. It's weaker, yes, but it's an excellent league and is still a great indicator of NHL success when a player does well in that league imo.

But yes I agree that if they're having a historic season it doesn't automatically mean they'll be superstars in the NHL right away but I think it's a great indicator of at least a top-6 role and potentially more after that.

Our wing positions really shouldn't be an issue for a decade with Raymond, Bergren, MBN, Cat, Buchelnikov, etc etc. it's unfortunate that's the least important position in hockey.

Really need Kasper or Danielson to pull through as 2Cs at minimum

So last season Mitchkov was under point per game in KHL and this season I see the same just under point per game for him in NHL.

Well, at least technically, Kasper is a 2C in the league as of late. I wouldn't say he looks lost doing it, so maybe the future really isn't so bleak.

If Larkin was 23 I wouldn't be concerned. It's just the fact that we'll have to find a 2C AND a 1C. I suppose that 2C could very well be Larkin in his older years. Really need both Kasper and Danielson to hit.
