GDT: #51 | Devils at Flyers | Monday, January 27, 2025 | 7:00 PM | NBCSP, 97.5 FM

Went to the casino, put $40 in the video roulette machine, drank a couple beers, played for almost two hours and walked away down $40*....sounds like it was more entertaining than that game

*Was up about $100, but blew it all at the end on a couple final swing for the fences spins.
i think that's why i dont gamble..i know how i am and i would do my best to get way ahead or back to even then be broke lol

There was a guy sitting next to us, casually talking to us, and he said that earlier today he lost 12 g's playing something and then won it back playing a slot machine....I could not fathom that

Weird metrics, Devils won Corsi 51.99%, Flyers won xGF 64.23%.

Reflects Flyer emphasis on trying to set up plays in front of the net, results in some broken plays, blocked passes, sometimes they overpass, but it's a learning experience.

When the Flyers get good goaltending, and decent STs, they're a competitive team. Shutting down Devils on 4 minutes minor really set the tone.

Though I hate shuffling D-pairs, Seeler - Johnson is butt ugly, they do not fit together. York plays just as well without Sanheim, he's not being carried, he's legitimate.

At some point we're going to have to admit that Drysdale may be for real, since he's returned:
24g xGF 60.61%, HDCF 63.23%
Those are special metrics, and he's just starting to figure it out.

It was a good game and a nice win. When they get decent goaltending and stick to their team structure they can play with the better teams.
I don't care what the naysayers say, these games are things you can build on.

Another game Michkov is completely sabotaged by the disgusting coach. Under 10 minutes of ice time, while Celebrini just hit 22 minutes of ice time in his game. Yeah he really never had a chance at the Calder. Flyers could take notes from teams with young talented players but they won’t, #culture. Hope Michkov asks out honestly, the organization and authentics deserve it.

Devils Need about 3 f's on their bottom six. Its top 6 or BLEH.
Nice to watch a game and say their goalies sux more than our goalie. Rare this year even facing tour of backup g's.
Backing up the truck for the bandwagon to pick 13.
Hischer and Haula are injured, but still that is very balanced team that should put up much better numbers. Then again Caps were considered shit and are suddenly best team in the league.

The contrast between how Michkov looked the first 2-3 months vs. now is startling. The more time a young player spends with Torts, the worse off they are. This has been proven time and time again. He is taking 0 chances on the breakout and seems afraid to make a mistake...the exact opposite of the way he started before adapting to Torts.

Shot-blocking their way right into the 13th overall pick. Classic Torts Hockey.

Michkov is playing his best hockey right now after a long slump.
With Couts out and a big lead early, Michkov was going to play less.
And there wasn't a lot of PP time.

I don't want Michkov playing that much, screw the Calder, get him through the season healthy.
Then get him into the gym this summer, and with a skating coach.
He's not a finished product right now, and no reason to rush things, unless you want to grind him down for a playoff run.

Based on everything they've said and done since Snyder died, I am certain if you got the Lasso of Truth onto Flyers management they'd gleefully admit that they think winning the Calder is bad for young players because it might make them entitled.

Why does every prospect have to get into the gym? Stop the madness and let them fill out in normal training don't force them to gain lbs for the sake of just getting bigger.

A good pro training program isn't about pumping as much iron as you can (though I'm sure Hurts does a lot of squats, those tush push plays . . . ).

It's designed around functional strength, so it should incorporate strength and flexibility and range of motion. It's not the 1950s anymore.

Genetics limits how much functional strength a player can add, but combined with skating coaching, you can add some speed and quickness over time. And lower body strength to anchor, and upper body strength to win puck battles.

Michkov is pretty stout, so it's not like he needs a makeover, just incremental improvements the next two years, he likes to play near the net so being able to anchor better and handle stick checking will make him even more dangerous.

One reason a lot of prospect lists use 23 as the cutoff age is that by that point a player is physically mature and has been in a pro training program for a few years. Improvement past that point usually comes from experience and a better understanding of the pro game.

2 Black and 27 Red Baby !!!!!

I didn't watch, but does anyone know why Michkov's ice time was so low?
In the first period there was a 4 min double minor on Risto for high-sticking that caused bleeding, and that effected Michkov's icetime. That's probably at least 1 shift taken from him.

In the middle of the 3rd, there was another penalty. He played normal shifts prior to that penalty, but didn't play after. NJ also pulled their goalie when they were down by 2 with ~4mins left in the 3rd. That's another shift taken from him.

If he gets those two shifts, he's around his average 5v5 ice time per game.
