Michkov is not a phenomenal player. Maybe in 2-3 years.
Right now he plays at a 2RW level. TK is a better player, a true 1st line player.

This is not a playoff team, and the FO has no illusions.
Briere clearly ruled out adding rentals at the TDL, says they're still looking to the future.
You made a post just recently that if the Flyers are a few points out and if they go on a winning streak , they could make the playoffs. Which is it?

Easy to be patient when your stance is always "we are 2 years away". And have had that stance the last 11 years.

He also.said they ate SC contenders 5vs5 and special teams/coaches are easy fixes.

So why don't we do this easy special teams teams/coaching fixes and be a SC contender?

What are we waiting for? Do the easy fixes.

According to deadhead, if they could get average goaltending and adda couple of decent starters, they're a top 8 team in the league.

This is always the litmus test. If you were a team that had a young player with 1C/1D potential. Would you make one of those deals? Even if you were a contending team? I wouldn't. If I'm trading a young player with that potential to make a run, I'm shooting higher
Thanks, MJL66. I want to ensure I understand your point correctly. Having the 1C/1D potential prospect is the litmus test for making a deal akin to the one I described, right? Of course, level of competitiveness will be the biggest factor, as a prospect almost by definition won't be a right-away solution. That being said, there is never a bad time to be adding these high-end prospects if you can make a deal work within your competitiveness window. I'd like to think that even Stanley Cup contenders would sacrifice quantity for significant quality.

Well, if you want to trade some draft picks for veteran specialists, a veteran 1B goaltender . . .

My point is to put yourself in the other teams shoes when suggesting a prospective trade. For clarity

You said it was easy fixes.

So why don't they do easy fixes and be a SC contender instead of being 25th in the league in winning%
They're not SC contenders with good goaltending, they're PO contenders. Big difference.

Holmgren in effect told CF to do that, he was tired of rebuilding after Hextall and wanted to win now.
So trade for top D-man (Niskanen), 2nd pair (Braun), buy 2C (Hayes).
That's how you take a 85 point team and make it a 95-100 point team in one offseason.
Problem was it's not sustainable, even if COVID didn't come along, the team would have aged out.
Didn't help that Patrick had concussions and Lindblom cancer. But was still inevitable.

"PO contenders" is another way of saying "irrelevant" and you've been acting like it's a big achievement.

PO contenders means you're a solid team, but a couple players outside the top 8 and maybe a little luck.
POs are a good experience for a young team to get a taste of the intensity.

Step by step.
