Not so much derogatory as much that we get annoyed by it. I know that to most people Minny is short for Minnesota, but we have like half a dozen pretty decent sized cities that start with "Minn", like Minnetonka, Lake Minnetonka, Minnehaha, Minneapolis, and so on. Some of the biggest hockey hotbeds start with those, and it gets some people confused, especially because so many people here still watch High School hockey throughout their lives. It's just too broad of a term. To a lot of people it's not a big deal though.

That, and Minnie Mouse.
