I suspect Utah will make the pick at 4, but curious what opposing teams would offer up for this pick.

Utah's biggest need is a young 20s second-line center.

Hans fans have been asking for this in the 525600 threads they’ve made the past 2 months with the same answer of not happening each time.

IMO they should just draft Frondell / Hagens / Desnoyers, whichever they see being the best possible 2nd line center for them long-term. Cooley Hayton McBain Stenlund for now and then Cooley Frondell Hayton McBain in one or two years.

I understand that Utah wants to compete now instead of stockpiling prospects, but they aren't exactly a real contender at this point. Waiting one or possibly two years to get their young 2nd line center into the lineup isn't an unreasonable time to wait for a team in their current position.

If there's a guy out there like Will Smith or Tij Iginla or Shane Wright available, you can maybe look at a trade like that... IF you think the guy is equal with Frondell Hagens Desnoyers etc.

I could see the Rangers wanting to use their #12 to trade up but they also don't have any young centers that are really NHL ready. Does this mean Utah wants to move Hayton to wing?

Can't help but feel like something around Horvat + Dobson for 4OA + something makes a lot of sense for both sides.

Utah gets considerably better right now - Islanders get Hagens and Schaefer.

Utah already has Tij Iginla. And he projects more as a winger.

If Hagen's is still on the board at 4, I might be willing to trade Dobson from the Islanders

In terms of a long-term solution at 2C, I think they're better off being patient for Desnoyers, Frondell, or Hagens, then grabbing best youngish center available.

4th overall is likely the best chip a team wanting a 2C will have available, but teams don't move those guys. The best youngish C potentially to be available is probably Zegras or Petterson. Given Utah is just reaching the beginning of their contention window, I'd take your number 2 (if Martone goes top 4) or 3 rated C in a strong center draft and call it a day.

Butt and Iginla would offer plenty of scoring, grit, and beef on Hagens' wings. That would give them two smallish top 6 centers in size, but Cooley doesn't play small, and McBain is big in the 3C spot.

For Utah I feel like trading the pick for current young players could be a great move and get them in the playoffs next year. What about something like Dobson + 2026 Col 1st + Danny Nelson for 4 OVR + Maverick Lamoureux + Roster player to match salary. Isles get a decent chance at Hagens while also getting a young RHD to replace Dobson. Utah gets a bonafide young RHD to pair with Sergachev plus a first you could trade or keep later. Nelson also has good potential but is most likely a 3C.

If Islanders decide to try to get McKenna+Dupont and go full tank, a trade around Horvat or Barzal could make sense.

But then again it's difficult to trade a 4th overall pick.

If LA decides to move on from Byfield, they could trade him in a package based around another package based around the 4th OA, at the draft, depending on if someone falls down the board or there's a core player (pure center or top pair D) to rebuild around.
