JG Pageau would fit a lot of the boxes specified above. This year and next year at $3.1m. Byron Pageau (insert RW) would be a good 4th line.

I thought the same thing when he signed it. Now I feel....eh....about it. He's more or less earning it in his role but we have someone on an ELC that has shown to be just as effective. 4.4 for two and a half years doesn't look as unredeemable as it did when he signed it.

Or there is Finnish-Swiss-Army Knife Granlund for 1.475.

lol, neither are attractive. Sutter is a cap dump in the worst way.

I disagree. He's not valuable in a "1st round pick from a desperate team at the deadline" kind of way. He's earned most of his ice time and probably most of his pay....at least in a world where we don't have Horvat and Gaudette and Beagle that can fill that third line role. He's just a spare part for us. If he's a cap dump for Montreal then so be it. I wish you all the best with your hunt for a 3c.

His 6pts in 26 games, while earning 4.4M AAV over the 3 years doesn't strike you as negative value?

Not looking for a 3C. Danault, Domi, Kotkaniemi fill those three spots very well. Looking for upgrades on the 4th line. But no team in their right mind pays $4.4m for a 4th line player

On paper that's brutal. It's all about his role as a specialist here. Plus he's way below his usual 19 goals and 30-something points. Plus we don't have a play maker on the wing for him. Plus he's been injured (and might still be) for half our total games this season. There are a ton of mitigating factors that I can continue to list but absolutely 6 points in 26 games is not acceptable. That's not why I offered him though.

I can't lie and say I think it's a great deal based on offense but his PK and defensive contributions out weigh his low numbers (even for him) this season.

Sorry he is our 3c. A team with better depth would likely be using him as a 4c you're right. The thread is for a 4c to Montreal.

No one pays 4.4M for a defensive specialist who is offensively challenged. You can get those guys for 1 to 2M per season.

This is the first season he has been off his mark of about what I cited earlier, 19ish goals and 30 plus points, per season. 2008-2009, his rookie season, and 2010-2011 (29 points in 82) are the only years he scored on a pace less than 30 points until this year. No one has mistaken him for Gretzky with those numbers, but as a, largely, 3c in his career and for a 4c in Montreal those would be great numbers to put up.

Not exclusively just the numbers for his price point mind you, but that's where the other factors I have listed come into play. He has trouble making the right pass, but "offensively challenged" isn't how I'd describe him.

I'm simply replying to your posts now, I'm not trying to sell Sutter to you, and I mean it sincerely when I say if you don't want him, you have not hurt anyones feelings or started some kind of vendetta, and that I wish your team well in it's search.

What do you want for him.

I’m a Habs fan. Not sure Ottawa would trade him let alone to Montreal. He’s a Ottawa-area guy and they’ve been weird about trading intra-division. That said, he makes a salary that they may want to trade. Hudon and a 2nd or 3rd would make sense to me.

Habs fan trades Jean Pageau to another Habs fans and agrees on the price! :)

I don't think Pageau is a 4C and I believe Melnyk doesn't trade within conference since that Ben Bishop deal
Pageau is def better than a 4C but Habs can afford a 3rd liner playing the 4th line. Limiting your trade partners during a rebuild would be a very strange decision but....
