With the playoffs on the horizon, Montreal needs an upgrade on 4th center position. What are the options available around the league, and what would be the price? Required qualities are:

- strong and tenacious skater, able to execute a system that requires lots of hard backchecking
- good defensively, able to handle matchups against good players
- solid faceoff ability

Optional qualities:

- right-handed shooter
- some offensive ability. With Montreal's depth it's likely he will end up with a decent winger on his line

Kyle Brodziak could be an option he is a sound defensive player with some offensive production. He can play either center or wing and gives an honest effort every shift. But one little problem would be is he a little lacking in the skating department

I brought up the idea of Oscar Lindberg in another thread. Vegas hasn't worked out for him but he could be worth taking a chance on.

That's certainly an option worth exploring, especially considering that it would be a cheap pickup. On the other hand I would prefer someone in form.

And he shoot right we don’t have any Center shooting right so yes we considère him for a 6/7th pick

I wonder if Dallas would give up an okay prospect or pick for Montreal to take Martin Hanzal. He’s be a good albeit expensive 4th line center. But Habs have plenty of space.

Skating is a huge requirement given the Habs style of play.

Carter Rowney checks most of your boxes. He's been a pleasant surprise based on reviews from Pens fans.

Strong, physical, competes hard to make the most of average skating, over 50% in the dot. Right handed shot, also plays RW. 12 points in 36 games for a team that spends most of the game in the Carlyle shell.

He has two years left at 1.13M, would be happy to have him remain on our 4th line for that price but could also see moving him for a pick and signing a replacement in the summer.

What kind of a pick do you have in mind?

Just don’t like the term of his contract

Hes more used as a winger here in FLA but is on pace for his normal 9-10 goal/23-26pt pace playing limited minutes. Is a right hand shot, has decent wheels which helps on the forecheck, can play PK and has two years left at $1.2 million. Hes not a game breaker but a decent 4th line guy.
Thanks. He seems to be more of a winger than center though.

Size, defensive play, high compete level, skating, faceoff ability... that's what we need- and ya, if he's right handed, all the better.

Brodziak will be worth at least a 4th round pick come the TDL, probably a 3rd round pick.

The concern with Brodziak isn't the value of the pick necessary to acquire him. The concern is whether he could fit on the Habs 4th line. I don't see him as a fit, the same way Hudon is not a fit. Hudon is a talented forward but can't keep up with pace of play. I think Brodziak will have the same issue and that just defeats the purpose. We may as well stick with Matthew Peca who drives the pace of play but can't win a faceoff.

Montreal will get another useful center in Poehling, but not until he decides to forgo getting his degree.

Why is Sutter earning 4.4M? LOL

I thought the same thing when he signed it. Now I feel....eh....about it. He's more or less earning it in his role but we have someone on an ELC that has shown to be just as effective. 4.4 for two and a half years doesn't look as unredeemable as it did when he signed it.

Or there is Finnish-Swiss-Army Knife Granlund for 1.475.
