Great point, Lemaire is as deserving as several players whose numbers are retired. #1 Center on arguably the greatest team ever assembled.Ah... memories:
- White boards without a single ad.
- The Habs playing an away-game in their red uniforms.
Jacques Lemaire is the very notable odd-man-out in the Habs honour guard of retired numbers. One of the greatest players of the 1970s dynasty who's been deliberately shoved out of view.
That was great night! I was 12, hockey was biggest thing in worldLived it, witnessed it. Man it was fun to watch
It is, but you know what stood out to me most? Danny GallivanAh... memories:

The best play by play man ever. The "cannonading shot"It is, but you know what stood out to me most? Danny Gallivan
Same here. That was an incredible season. As close to perfect as any team has come.Lived it, witnessed it. Man it was fun to watch
They lost 1 game all year at the forum. I think they were 36-1-3 on home ice. If I remember correctly they lost 4-3 to Boston at the Forum.Same here. That was an incredible season. As close to perfect as any team has come.
Lemaire was my favorite player........Dryden and Cournoyer were right there..........Ah... memories:

As I think about it We were very fortunate back then. Not only Danny Gallivan. But Roger Doucet singing national anthem every game. Scotty Bowman, Sam Pollock. Arguably the coach and GM the league has ever seen. The Big Three, they were about best defense ever assembled. With good back up, Nyrop was good #4, Bouchard was the WiFi of his day. Ken Dryden. The best play by play man ever. The "cannonading shot"

Pete Mahovlich centred the top line too.Great point, Lemaire is as deserving as several players whose numbers are retired. #1 Center on arguably the greatest team ever assembled.
Pete imo was perfect in that role and I never liked the trade for Larouche. Big Pete had a 117 point season centering Guy and Shutt.Pete Mahovlich centred the top line too.
Do you remember the only home game they lost that season was to the Bruins, and there was a smattering of boos from the Montreal crowd at the end? I mean, talk about expectations!Lived it, witnessed it. Man it was fun to watch
You know the one sound I vividly remember from those days?Do you remember the only home game they lost that season was to the Bruins, and there was a smattering of boos from the Montreal crowd at the end? I mean, talk about expectations!
Remember the trumpeter blasting out his only song: "Charge!" Or the yodelling guy in the stands? Or the Peter Pan-like Ducky with his legion of young boys running thorough-out the Forum? And speaking of the Forum, remember how high but narrow the steps, it was like descending down a Mayan pyramid... lol.You know the one sound I vividly remember from those days?
You would hear this one fan scream and repeat "Go Habs Go" and it echoed through the entire Forum. Classic stuff that I remember!
They traded him for a couple of reasons, but they saw Larouche as the next 50 goal guy to join Lafleur.Pete imo was perfect in that role and I never liked the trade for Larouche. Big Pete had a 117 point season centering Guy and Shutt.
We would buy standing only ticks for like $10 in the 80’s. Great times.Remember the trumpeter blasting out his only song: "Charge!" Or the yodelling guy in the stands? Sadly, that's so true. But Pete was also one of the nicest players you could ever meet as a fan. They traded him for a couple of reasons, but they saw Larouche as the next 50 goal guy to join Lafleur.
Also, Pete was not always on water before games.

It wasn't just Mahovlich. Peter Lee was a highly rated player. I watched him a lot in Ottawa with the 67s. Like many others, I was convinced he was going to be a star and wasn't happy the Habs gave him up. The Habs paid a high price for Larouche at the time, imo. The latter was the ultimate luxury player who already had a reputation as being "difficult" in Pittsburgh. They traded him for a couple of reasons, but they saw Larouche as the next 50 goal guy to join Lafleur.

For 25 years Habs won 15 Cups. From 1955-1979.I can only witness that on NHL games. Not in real life.
