He lost his confidence...
The thing was he was doing very well as the C at times and getting in scoring areas and just firing shots in the slot when he had the puck, now he hesitates, passes chances away, etc.

The way he was handling the puck in those first 30 games, he was a different player. Confidence is a hell of a thing.

I give them credit. They have rebuilt, are now playing the kids and the coach has them buying into playing a complete game. They are going to be good in the near future.

This thread is just a bunch of people complaining about role players. I mean isn’t there better things to do in life?

If you listen to that PDOCast about goalies especially mentioning the bigger ones like Vasilevskiy, Markstrom, etc. Murray was mentioned, that his game was reliant on the way the team played in front of him and when the Pens changed it up as it wasn’t sustainable, Murray never adjusted and adapted so he struggled heavily and given he’s pretty stubborn and arrogant in his own abilities, not a bad thing until it is, he needed to be almost out of a career before he really figured things out with Bierk this year. You can see how he plays now, closer to being the goalie we hoped he was.

I think I despise him more because of how it went down, the arrogance in the Canucks owning his ass and then the way he played not really changing it up to adjust, but he has this year with some serious help with Bierk and he looks like the goalie we thought we were going to cheer on for years, I 100% was in that group on the main board telling others we had an elite goalie in Murray and had dreams of the amazing tandem of Murray-Jarry, thank god Jarry is still here.

This could have been so ugly after losing Gustavsson, then Murray was moved and if the Pens panicked last year, we’d have DeSmith and some hasbeen as our back-up.

Elite goalies are elite because they are just that f***ing good regardless of how their team adjusts in front of them - I think Markstrom and Vasilevskiy are those types and Shesterkin I am skeptical about, he’s amazing with his movements so maybe he’s in that category too the more we see him.
I mean I hope he does find some consistency, but I'm not sold at all because of a good 3 week stretch.
He still lacks the athleticism that the top tier goalies have. That won't change.

Sens are defending well in front of him lately. Getting a lot of sticks on attempted shots. High danger chances against are down.

We'll see how long it lasts. Once they leave him exposed and opponents get him moving laterally (like on that Rust play he missed), his numbers will plummet imo.

If they become a better defensive team in the future then Murray can be serviceable though.

Yeah i am not 100% sold on Murray as of yet either, he’d need to basically play like this the rest of the season when called upon and also stay healthy for me to believe he’s worth even half of his contract right now.

Under a dozen games does not mean - he’s back. Jarry is f***ing back after last season and having an All-star performance the year before that. That’s someone that’s “back,” but when you’ve been struggling for 3-4yrs and have a stretch of 5-7 games, that’s “on the path of..”

3 certainties in life:
- Netherlands and speed skating
- Norway and skiing
- Germany and sled events.

Them Germans know how to drive and build them.

Watching skeleton makes me mad I never tried it before they shut down the track at Canada Olympic Park. Did bobsled there, that was nuts.

The legacy of Guy Boucher is hard to shake. I think they look like they've got potential to be competitive, especially if Murray can be in 2016-17 form.

I’d still sign him at 2m/yr given he’s a damn good depth player and we need them on this team, especially ones that can play all 3 forward positions quite admirably.

But some blokes were like “5m+!!! On the open market!” Haha
I wouldn't mind retaining him for cheap if we have enough room after extending Geno, Letang and Rust. But to me he's definitely not a priority.
