Seems like he only gets his shot when the team is playing like ****. Kind of hard to shine in those circumstances.

I have an idea. If he plays well, he might help them play better. Your best players aren't supposed to be dependent on their teammates. They are supposed to pull along the so-called less important.

The thing is we can into an issue with those picks.

Do we go the “best available” route or “adress need” route?

I say best available. You don’t know what kind of further moves and deals will play out as the accrued youth is developing. You think you’re going to extend McD for example but he wants to much $$ or says he wants to test the market and you end up trading him later on. The return changes the look of the prospect pool and you end up heavy at one position and lacking elsewhere. At least by accumulating high end talented prospects, deals are always open to you. You take the best player available and can always make moves later on.

We should be looking to draft guys with high ceilings. We have no trouble getting second and third liners. We have had tons of them since the lockout.

We NEED to draft guys with high ceilings. If we can move Nash/Grabner or actually do shop McD/Zucc and draft twice in the 1st again this year, that is huge. We should even look to package later picks and lesser prospects to move up. Imagine picking twice in the top 15-20 after picking 7 and 21 last year. Add Shestyorkin. Pool looks better instantly.

Hopefully Trautwig versus Valliquette is not the highlight attraction tonight.

Sure, but let's not pretend it's easy to play head and shoulders above the rest of your team when they are stinking it up unless your name is Ovechkin or Crosby and the like. Buchnevich isn't some superstar he's a 50-60 point guy, that's been pretty much our peak since Jagr.

This worries me. Doctors don't really know how to fix backs. If this is a recurring issue (or could be) then it is REALLY time to see what the return on McD would be. Speaking from experience, you can't really "power through" a back injury. They are career enders.

They were reported by AV as back spasms. Don't look too far into it.
