Yeah the difference is Sid missed 14 games and Geno missed 64 games and Letang missed 23 games and Hextall still found a way to make the playoffs twice.

While Malkin and Letang have missed a total of 9 this season and last.

You’re really close to getting my point, but I guarantee you don’t.
No, the difference is 32-33 yr olds and a much better supporting cast. then 37 and 38 yr olds, and a very unremarkable supporting cast. Beyond the big three being younger, You're also not considering the quality of the goaltending back then. Jake was 27, Rust was 29 and our overall defense was better. You neglect these things because it doesn't support your argument. That entire roster was better.

NO GM could come in here with these guys at this age, very little in the way of player development with no prospect pool and turn it around. You live in a dream world.

You're comparing guys either in their primes or just beyond their primes with this group of over the hill players and never was.

When you reinforce a coach who can’t develop prospects and players the development will never occur.

Weird how Evan Rodrigues won a cup after leaving here.

Weird how Kasperi Kapanen is playing a depth role on the Oilers.

Weird how Washington turned their franchise around in two years.

Weird how this awful roster is within striking distance of a playoff spot.

Weird.
What have the caps won exactly the last two years?

Dubas just got here a year and a half ago. In that time an according to a few publications our prospect pool went from 26th to 18 or 19th, depending on which one you believe.

We have 28 picks over the next three drafts. Including 14 in the 1st three rounds. When was the last time we had that many picks in a three year period?

This process is gonna take time. If you're holding out hope for Sid to be in the playoffs you better hope he goes to play with nate dog! He'll never win a playoff series here again! Done! Just like it's been since 2018.

Weird how 37 and 38 year olds who have histories of injuries aren't as good as they were FIVE years ago. Weird!

Dubas, you can't turn back the clock????????? YOU FAILED US!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when these same writers told us we had the best defensive prospect group in the league and the crown jewel ended up being Brian Dumoulin who we didn’t even draft.

Cores have expiration dates, you just have to learn to accept that. And if you don't you can be miserable.

Just because they WON'T leave doesn't mean they're still legit contenders. The core is the problem, not the GM. Once they miss the playoffs for a THIRD straight year, it'll accelerate the necessary changes. It'll start before this trade deadline actually.

Where would we be without you to remind us that players in their late 30s aren’t as good as they were in their late 20s?
Groundbreaking analysis from you. Maybe next you’ll tell us this team should be tanking to secure a top-3 draft pick?

It's criminal that Malkin has to play with these garbage linemates year after year

Some here believe this team is still in the mix, tell them this! You're delusional as usual if you can't see there are quite a few here who still hold out hope for this team. What have you brought to this forum that's so profound or insightful? Tell us? I'll wait.

Also, I'd be happy with a top 10 pick. At least that's a step in the right direction. This formula clearly won't work, hasn't for six years, has it?

At the risk of being on the same side of Ryder, how are any of these criticisms of Dubas?

Weird how Kasperi Kapanen has one goal in his last 10 games in Edmonton after his customary brief showcase of signs of life every time he joins a new team. He's also played under 10 minutes in two of his last three games. Gee, really wish we had him!

Weird how apparently Evan Rodrigues' presence as the 8th leading scorer on Florida was apparently the catalyst for them winning the Cup and not, you know, Barkov, Tkachuk, Veraghe, Reinhart, Bennett, and a prolific blueline. I know if I had to pick a player from Florida to get my team over the top, it'd absolutely be Rodrigues.

And weird how some people are grading this team on its proximity to a playoff spot this year yet that has never been the stated goal.

This is a long-term build. The team being in the playoff mix because of the first line and a terribly mid Eastern Conference is incidental.

Dubas has clearly and succinctly stated his vision for this team and it's future. You either accept it or you don't. But to suggest there's no path or no coherent plan being executed is just mindless, baseless and nonsensical.

Moved off Tanev and McCann who are total losers in Seattle and brought in Heinen and re-signed Rodrigues. Good work tbh.
McCann's a total loser in Seattle? He's led the team in points every year he's been there and potted 40 (more than any Penguin that year) in 2022-23, the same year Kraken came within 2 goals of advancing to the Western Conference Finals after knocking off champion Avs. Twice team MVP. Maybe we need more total losers? Granted Kraken were one of the league's worst offensive teams in two of those three years, but the Pens were hardly juggernauts, lounging between league average and below average in two of the three as well.

I would like to see this because I’ve only seen him talk in vague, nebulous, corporate speak.

Yeah if you want to fight that some of Hextall’s moves weren’t that bad or even good that’s fine, but there’s no way around the fact he made a huge mistake here. Said so at the time and people acted like I was insane.

That's more like it! The power play winning us games happened too often, so it was time to go back to having absolutely terrible special teams. Getting shut out by a goalie few have heard of is also a Penguins specialty.

“I just think we got outplayed,” Sullivan said.
You think?
