No, the difference is 32-33 yr olds and a much better supporting cast. then 37 and 38 yr olds, and a very unremarkable supporting cast. Beyond the big three being younger, You're also not considering the quality of the goaltending back then. Jake was 27, Rust was 29 and our overall defense was better. You neglect these things because it doesn't support your argument. That entire roster was better.Yeah the difference is Sid missed 14 games and Geno missed 64 games and Letang missed 23 games and Hextall still found a way to make the playoffs twice.
While Malkin and Letang have missed a total of 9 this season and last.

NO GM could come in here with these guys at this age, very little in the way of player development with no prospect pool and turn it around. You live in a dream world.
You're comparing guys either in their primes or just beyond their primes with this group of over the hill players and never was.
