And Dubas brought in McGroaty, Koivenen,
Ilyin, pieniniemi and Brunicke. I’m also interested in Howe and Harding from the last draft.

Let’s not pretend like hextall was building some super star prospect lineup.

“He was trying to keep the status quo“

This is literally the worst thing a GM can do and the reason people complain about Dubas.

Pickering IMO is a better prospect than every player on this list besides potentially Brunicke.

Which I guess is the reason why I’m not convinced of the “plan”.

Again neither had a plan. I’m all for criticizing Dubas but Hextall was just as bad. He had no plan except to do as little as possible. Just like Dubas he waited way to long to waive Kap and way to long to move McGinn.

Both were/are awful.

Kapanen played 43 games in 22-23 and had 20 points. He would be our sixth best forward production wise.

McGinn had 10 goals in 22-23 at 60 games.

If Dubas waives Nieto or Acciari in the next 16 games then I’ll give him props.

The fact is he’s constructed an absolute dog of a roster, kept an absolute shit coach, and added little to our prospect group that will change the trajectory of this team post Sid.

Yes Dubas is awful we agree.

This quote is literally the same as hextall tho lol.

Hextall made the playoffs twice and his roster missed by one point largely due to half the defense being injured for 20+ games.

The Penguins have been one of the healthier teams in the league the past two seasons and are likely questionable to make the playoffs this year as they were last year.

Our best goaltending prospect was drafted by Hextall, our best D prospect IMO was drafted by Hextall and the argument is probably there that Broz is potentially our best forward prospect. I’d take McG, but he wasn’t drafted by Dubas.

We had our 1st every year Hextall was here.

We largely bounced out our picks for the future while being a more competitive team.

Pick situation is bad under Dubas, competitiveness is bad under Dubas, future is about the same under Dubas.

Team was better set for the future and the now under Dubas and didn’t have anchor contracts like Graves and Jarry.

2021 Draft - Hextall's first in charge after taking over midseason, Pens had a 2nd, 5th, and 3 7ths. Rutherford traded the first in the Zucker trade.
2022 Draft - Hextall's second draft after first full season. Pens had a 1st (Pickering), 4th, 5th, and 6th. Hextall gave up the 2nd in the Rakell trade and the 3rd in the Carter trade.
2023 Draft - Dubas' first draft after being hired. Pens had a 1st (Yager), 3rd, 5th, 6th, and two 7ths. Hextall traded the 2nd for Granlund, a second 3rd to LA in the Carter trade, and the 4th to Montreal in the Petry trade.
2024 Draft - Dubas' second draft. Pens had two 2nds, a 4th, a 6th, and two 7ths. Dubas gave up the 1st in the Karlsson trade. Dubas acquired the extra 2nd in the Guentzel trade. Hextall gave up the 3rd to get rid of McGinn. Hextall gave up the 5th for Bonino.

Looking ahead, the Pens have their first round picks in 2025, 2026, and 2027. They don't have a second round pick in 2025, but they have two apiece in 2026 and 2027. They have seven third round picks over the next three years. And they have almost all of their later round picks, and in some cases multiple picks in various rounds.

As of now, the Pens have 10 draft picks in the 2025 draft, 9 draft picks in 2026, and 9 draft picks in 2027. They have not had a draft with more than 6 picks since 2012, when they had 9 (including two firsts used on Maatta and Pouliot).

You can disagree on the overall outlook, but the Pens have more picks under Dubas than they've had in over a decade. Pretty outlandish to suggest the pick situation is bad under him.

Oh man. The rebuild is going to absolutely kick off with the 6 3rds Dubas has gotten. Amazing work!

Once again. How much better does our future look if Dubas didn’t give up a 1st for EK and got a 1st for Guentzel.

And if he’s going to be trying to be competitive more quickly how much better does that look if Dubas has the stones to fire Sullivan and make some ballsy moves this summer instead of signing Gryz and Beau.

Bunting isn't a top 6 forward.

Either tank or bring in some offense good God.

Bunting is basically Kasperi Kapanen redux but Sully will actually play him on the PP because he isn’t European.

And I feel like he is going to pull him off the PP as soon as it goes through a drought.

Better for sure but still in a spot where the future looks grim.
You're dealing with individuals who simply don't understand the hand Kyle was dealt. He had an aging core who missed the post season the year before he got here with no prospect pool to speak of. It's as if these individuals don't look at the reality of the situation.

This team was gonna take a step backwards regardless.

How he drafts and develops our prospects is what we'll define his tenure. THIS ERA with THIS CORE, is over. It'll just take time for some to realize it.

Exactly right! He's doing precisely what he should be doing with the hand he was dealt.

But some here are butthurt over Jake leaving. They FORGET with Sid and Geno healthy and with Jake, they MISSED the playoffs the year before. So, why keep the same formula that hasn't worked now for six years plus? And with the core getting older.

I’ve never left a regular season game early but I did this time.

My last three games, 2-0 L to Carolina, 2-0 L to Rangers, 5-0 L Sens.

I’ve probably spent close to $3,000 during those games but this is the last one I’m going to in a long time. If they want to suck that’s fine but they need to lower the price of tickets then.

I suggest not spending a cent on this team until Sullivan is canned.

Or unless FSG sell em’ to another ownership group.

They aren't even remotely similar players. This just illustrates you don't know what you're talking about (per usual). Just like you asserted that lie about McGroarty's production in the WB thread.

Big difference between having Crosby, Letang and Malkin at 32 and 33 as opposed to having them at 37 and 38.
