you think Crosby is going to lose the puck if he just does one little deke? it's possible, certainly, but trying to open Montoya up and not getting all of the puck can't be worse than skating up and making a very predictable shot.

I don't care to microanalyze every frame of Crosby's penalty shot. It's generally a good idea to keep things simple and take what the goalie gives you when there's bad ice, because a well-placed shot is better than attempting moves where your control is compromised and you may not get off a shot at all.

Do we really have to go through this nearly every game with Crosby? He misses a chance and then everyone wets themselves with "OMG what's wrong with Crosby?" posts. Then like 15 minutes later we're all marveling at some play that only he can make. I mean I get that nobody is above criticism, but let's cut the best player in the world, the leading point scorer and 4th leading goal scorer, who has carried the team this season, a little slack for one missed penalty shot.

it isnt necessarily that he missed it. its that people think that since Crosby didnt do anything fancy that NOBODY can score a penalty shot after 17 minutes in the period have passed. they talk like doing anything outside of skating straight up and shooting blocker side is impossible.

In this age of sabre-metrics and moneyball, I'd love to see the adoption of AI coaching that can help us get beyond this coach-player loyalty crap. If Adams or Glass were rookies, they would never get on the ice. They produce zero offense and give up a goal almost every game. Any kind of analysis of the games, be it stats or the eye test yields the same results. They stink. We either need a computer (or a Scotty Bowman) that will play the good players, and sit the garbage ones. If every player knew that if they performed at X level, they would have a spot in the lineup, then they would bust their backsides to do it. Even if vets got extra credit towards sticking in a lineup, there must be some point at which a guy sits.
