Through the 1st period, I tried to look at this team through fresh eyes along with our new GM. Some thoughts:

Granted, we are missing Myers, Hodgson, Leino and Stafford, but this team is terrible with the puck. Stick handling and puck possession skills just are not there. There is no reason for Foligno and Ott to be trying to stickhandle through the neutral zone. One of our better stickhandlers (Ennis) continues to cycle back when he hits the blue line...even on a 3 on 2 :shakehead

We had at least 8 shots in a row from the point miss the net. It was not until Ehrhoff's shot got through that Thomas had to make a save on a screened shot . Florida did not have that problem.

I like McNabb, but I'm not sure I see him in our future top 6. Sulzer and McBain should be gone next year (Even though I have not minded McBain at times).

I would like to see more Girgs, less Ott on the pp.

I would love to hear what is running through Tim Murray's mind right now. Most likely, this team needs offense and a lot of it.

I think he's more likely to be a long term guy here than Pysyk. Pysyk is better and thats the issue. McNabb will always be a 5/6 type player and therefore a cheap player. Pysyk will be in competition for 2 top 4 spots with Risto and Zadorov. He's too good to hide on cheap contracts forever. Combined with the thinking that Murray will eventually pull the trigger on a deal that I believe will include 1 of Pysyk/Risto/Zadorov.

Nice rush and goal for McBain.

Good point. I wonder what Pysyk would bring from a team stacked with O talent that needs D? Someone his age. We still would have Risto/Myers on the right side for years with Zadorov/McCabe/Ehrhoff/McNabb all on the left

He doesn't bring anything because he isn't going anywhere. The D isn't jammed so far. As it stands Myers,Zads,Risto are the top three, Pysyk,McNabb,McBain and Erhoff are expected to be here and should be competing for those three spots. If we get Ekblad, then we make a move, at this point we're fine..

As I said, I like McBain. He usually puts his shot on goal and has improved defensively since his days in Carolina. I also have been on the fence with Pysyk. With Risto, Zadorov, Myers and Ehrhoff projected for the future, something has to give. I like Pysyk as the 3/5 role, but am willing to entertain offers if all of the above excel.
