No, that's incorrect. This is what tanking looks like. Only issue is they're not trying to tank. They're trying to remain competitive and compete for the playoffs. They don't want to be down the bottom because it's so hard to get out of it. These are the recent words of the GM. They're where they are due to incompetence, not by plan. If they can't do now what they set out to do, what makes anyone think they can build this team to contending status. This is what they're refusing to trade Laughton for.
This is what underachieving young players looks like.
1) Drysdale you have to ask is he going to be a bigger stiff than Ryan Parent?
2) What happened to the old Farabee?
3) Why do skilled players on the flyers go backwards?
4) Is fartarella stiffling Michkov?
5) Is Tippett overrated?
6) Are you paying Frost a new contract or trading?

But at least Laughton has 12 points in 13 games. snicker

The seats were fantastic (thanks again @Hollywood Cannon)!

This was my first game in Philly and we had fun. Yeah they lost, but my gf and her son are Stars fans so it was all good. Flyers played like a hot mess but they scored one and we got to enjoy what it feels like to have 19,000 fans on your side instead of me cheering by myself in a random arena.

The guy sitting beside us was really nice and gave us cheesesteak recommendations and even helped the Stars fans behind us.

A few Flyers fans razzed my gf’s son for his Stars jersey. Was mostly in good fun but one guy after the game when we were walking outside was very annoying and just wouldn’t shut up and it took a lot for me to just have us walk away. It sucks that there’s always a few like that but whatever. He was clearly drunk then just started insulting us for being Canadian.

The Snider tribute was well done and my daughter had a blast visiting and seeing things she’s only ever seen on TV, and it was great bonding over those things.

We did the Rocky statue and steps - yeah yeah cliche but very cool when you’re not from here - and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Walked around the city, got some food, and had a great time.

Thank you Philadelphia! We’ll be back for a win next time!

Most importantly, glad you all had a good time.

Are you guys originally Canadian? I’m asking because I have to say that there is a…change…in how my wife is treated locally by some people when they find out she’s Canadian. It’s just weird. I won’t go into the pet store on the island anymore because the owners just kept telling me how awful Canada is. The overwhelming majority are fine. It’s just that the odd interactions are quite so.

I’m sorry to hear that about the way they treat your wife.

Yes we’re originally Canadian, east coasters who are generally very laid back, open minded, respectful. Love meeting new people and learning other cultures. Are you asking if we’ve noticed being treated differently in the U.S.? Honestly last night was the first time I felt outright disrespect and loathing because I’m from a different country. I think you’re right that it’s just pockets of people here and there, but I do worry that social climate is changing around the world.

I can understand. Every time I meet a Canadian I expect them to give me their pocketful of poutine, so I am excited. But then they never do. And that makes me angry at Canada forever. This is reasonable, of course

I won’t have poutine for you but I can give you $1.50 CAD for one of your dollars and a “She’s a cold one out there, eh?”

Yeah. Whatever this specific thing is, it did not exist when we started dating ~14 years ago. I can’t pinpoint a date when it started, but something has changed.

It can even be friendly. That’s the one that threw me hard. I don’t know how to handle “I’m so happy you left that dangerous place and are safe now,” when the dangerous places were Kelowna and Vancouver Island.

Those streets of Kelowna can be rough haha.

Do you notice if you’re treated differently when you come to Canada?

What an ignorant SOB. Sorry you had to experience that garbage....

I’ve traveled enough to know most people are perfectly fine and decent. We love coming to the U.S. and we’ll keep coming knowing that it’s just a few random people no matter where you go.

I am occasionally asked if I’m sure I’m American because I’m polite. Other than that and laughing at my clear New Jersey accent, no.

I did get mildly assaulted for what I was told was speaking English in the wrong Montreal neighborhood once years ago. But that city is wonderful and I refuse to count that as the norm. We’ve been back 5 or 6 times since and can’t wait to go again.

Wow, assaulted? That’s awful. Montreal is so cosmopolitan and usually pretty accepting so keep going and enjoy that poutine! La Banquise has the best ones.

I dunno....this society has really turned overly angry, intolerant, cruel, insecure and orthodox with their thinking in the last 8-10 years. Gonna try and ride out the next 5 years as best possible but positioning to gtfo of here after that....

NJ lost to the Rangers without Shesterkin. Fire Keefe!

It was just one game.

As far as Americans' behavior toward Canadians, most Americans don't know their own history or anything about their own country. Who was Warren J. Harding?

So all they know about Canada is some weird stuff they read on "X" or some other stupid site, and have no concept that Canada has its own history and culture. It's related to the US in that they're both former British colonies, and are strongly influenced by English law and culture, but they diverged 200 years ago.
