2020 Redraft - Top 5

Raymond has the 226th highest on-ice sh% among forwards this season.

LA has scored almost as many goals 5v5 as Detroit has 5v5+5v4. It's nothing short of a miracle that Raymond is as productive as he is on a team that struggled to get >20 SOG for most of the season before the coaching change.
54th , the top 6, all played 4 games or less. Only off by 172 positions.

I'm just curious what y'all get out of demanding others see your player as the number one from a draft, not 2-3 spots down or whatever. My friends, you've got the damn player! Just enjoy what you got!

Agreed on the unsustainable shooting %. The rest is a lot of mental gymnastics trying to prop up a player who averages 40 points per 82.

Byfield may still end up the better player. But he's not close to Raymond right now.
What is mental gymnastics.... He is a PP machine who is riding a historical shooting % to have his stats be what they are haflway through the year. I'm not bashing him. He doesnt have competition on the wing so he gets PP1 time (and he is good with that time).

As I mentioned in the summer, I had no issues with Raymond being someone's top pick for a redraft. I also thought it was annoying when Detroit fans couldnt even imagine him being below 3rd. He is a smaller one way winger - those guys just dont carry the value a big 2 way Center or defenseman do.

Do you take Marner over Eichel? Maybe, maybe not. I lean towards Eichel because I think he can push the play as a center. Do you take Nylander over Barkov? I take Barkov. I'm not saying Byfield is that guy, or will be that guy. I do believe he has a bunch of "traits" and their ES scoring is incredibly similar. A redraft doesn't mean I'm picking for the best player right now. I'm picking the guy who I think will help my team the most. A filled out 6'5 Byfield at 1C is an IF I place a ton of value on.

No no no, you dont understand. In a fake redraft where you state your opinion it's only ok if that opinion is the same as Detroit Fans

Lol those comparisons are soooo bad. You start off by calling Raymond a one way winger, which isn't true but after that it gets funny.

You're using 2 way center comparisons that are all guys who can challenge for 100 points. Except right now, Byfield is closer to 40 points than 100 probably this year. Raymond is pushing 80-90 points.

Would you rather have Phillip Danault or Nylander? Its actually a much closer comparison than what you just made. Would you rather have Marner or Lars Eller? If you want to use random players to make a point, I can do that too. Except my comparisons are closer right now

Laf and Byfield didn’t take the steps forward this year I think people expected, though Byfield has been adjusting to playing center on lower lines rather than top line wing and has been playing better recently. It’s getting harder to justify them over Raymond who has continued to improve, though all these guys are still too young to make any definitive claims. I think some people are too focused on right now, which isn’t what a redraft is about. I still think those two, plus Stutzle, Raymond, Sanderson, Faber, and Jarvis are the top 7 and I don’t think it’s too crazy to put them in various orders in terms of projections.

that's just silly. that's like me saying, 'i think nate danielson would go top 3 in a redraft. he hasn't done anything to justify that opinion, but i  think he can'

That’s literally the point of a personal redraft. People are saying who they would take based on how they think the players will turn out, not who is the best right now, or how teams would necessarily re-pick them. Just like GMs give guys with standout physical attributes multiple opportunities, Byfield is the type of player who could be a bit of a unicorn if he fully figures it out. Though it’s certainly easier to take a chance on potential on a message board with no real life consequences other than angry Wings fans.

i mean, sure. i  could have the opinion that brady cleveland would go first overall in a redraft, but that doesn't mean that i am not absolutely wrong
