Confirmed with Link: 4 year extension for Michael Rasmussen (3.2 AAV)

I used to advocate for Rasmussen because he's not really a liability, but at the same time he shown he also really kills plays offensively and has not improved in that regard. If he can't do anything there, he should be using his size and skating to be forechecking demon in the bottom 6. If he were to do that, and do it consistently, that's a player worth having. He never will be that unfortunately

I'd be happy moving him because we need to move on from such players rather than hang onto them hoping for a different outcome each year. I was pleased with the Veleno trade for that reason

I think it's about time we move on from this guy.

Not a great penalty killer, not that physical, just really does not bring much to the table... aside from being tall.

Let's send him out for a mid-late round pick and see what Mazur, Danielson, Lombardi, etc can do.
Fun fact. The Wings score more at ES with Ras on the ice than Kane...

If he was more physical and a + for the penalty kill, I’d be fine with keeping him. But I don’t really think we’ve seen it. He also isn’t even winning faceoffs as much as he previously has. So I just don’t see where he fits in with this team moving forward.

It's weird, he doesn't have standout skill, but he also doesn't have the pace or mean streak to succeed without it, either. He doesn't have a great shot, he doesn't score a lot of garbage goals, and he also doesn't really play a shutdown game. Some nights it's hard to tell what he adds to this team.

But he's huge and skates pretty well, so everyone is always looking at what he *could* do, and not what he's doing right now.

Over a year with no one posting on this Rasmussen thread before Frk It today. That really says something about the player.

Yeah, I think we struggle with expectations around him. He looks like he has a good toolset, but never seems to execute the way we want him to. Except for one out of every five games where you see a flash of what you were hoping for... and then you never see that again until another flash a few games later.

I think he's been more aggressive this season than in the past, but he just isn't capable of putting it to good use. He doesn't have the natural disposition to run people over, he doesn't know how to properly leverage his size, and weirdly at 220 pounds I think he's still like 20 pounds too light for his frame.

I'm with @SirloinUB that Ras is still a useful player, but he's also probably never going to be anything close to what we so desperately wanted him to be.

It is a bit...odd? how we have so many huge guys (Ras, Seider, Ed, Soder) who could probably pack on at least ten more pounds but who never do (less so soderstrom). Maybe they've tried in the past and it hurt their skating too much, but these guys are tall have builds that even at 200-220 still look lanky. Seider at 220, Ras and Ed at 235-245, I think they just become way more difficult for other teams to deal with.

Every once in a while he grows a pair and tries to power his way to the net and loses the puck in his feet. Other times he will try to toe drag the defender and lose the puck in their feet. Either way, the puck is getting lost in someones feet.
Holland drafted him to be a net front PP screener like Holmstrom. At ninth overall is an abombination.

It is never gonna happen with him. What makes Crosby so hard on the puck is Rasmussen's biggest weakness and it all goes downhill from there: Balance. But I honestly think you can mislead some size-loving GM (Stop it, you perv) to shell out a 2nd for him. Even better: Package him, a pick and Berggren for example to get a real scoring winger.

Does @Henkka still believe Moose just has to get a shot in the top6 and then he will be an effective puckhound and producer? :sarcasm:

Hughes wasn’t even on our radar.
Well, Hughes was on OUR radar. I remember Hughes, Dobson and Bouchard being the consensus picks of the posters. If the rumors are true, Bouchard was the apple of Kenny's eye until he was "gifted" Zadina. Gaahhhh!

On topic: if Ras hasn't established an identity or shown progress by now, it ain't gonna happen. You can't use the shitty team/coach excuse because several players have come in and progressed in the same situation Ras has faced.

Ras/Berg/2nd/2nd for Knies because toronto doesn’t have the money to re sign him.
