Because he was almost traded, according to some sourcesHopefully for Sanheim, Hicketts didn’t make the team too.
What a world. A guy who couldn’t take Provorov’s minutes and was almost traded for Krug a year ago is one of the 7 best Canadian defensemen in the NHL.
How f***ing embarrassing would that be if anyone was smart enough to notice.Hopefully for Sanheim, Hicketts didn’t make the team too.

Someone lit a fire under Sanheim’s arse…Because he was almost traded, according to some sources

"Let's showcase these four countries, and f*** the rest of ya all."

The problem is that Russia is persona non grata while the invasion of Ukraine continues. I’m good with that. They went with the 4 best because, realistically, the Czechs and Slovaks would have trouble competing. Not a perfect solution but the players want international games, they all want the revenue. Olympics are coming soon. They want as much NHL players on these rosters as possible. Some of those other countries probably would have like a quarter to half of their rosters made up of players outside the NHL.
I think it’s stupid but the NHL has been pretty rigid with the last two world cup’s. It’s what birthed Team Europe & Team North America for example.
I personally rather them invite Russia, Slovakia, Czechia, & Germany on top of these four & do a more truer best on best regardless of who these teams roster.
Current politics kinda made Russia a no for this year otherwise I'd think they would have done 6 and had them and one of Slovakia/Czechia/Germany as the final one. And to do 6 and not have Russia would be a tough sell if you only look at Hockey Talent. They want as much NHL players on these rosters as possible. I think we need to realize that this is all about two things: first, giving Crosby one final time to wear Team Canada's jersey as Captain, as he's not making the Olympic team; and second, to give McDavid some international experience in best-on-best before he's the feature player for all the Olympic ads.Yeah I get that - I was being mostly facetious. It's just a weird thing to go ahead with it and tell basically a third of your player base, nah, there's no actual way you can participate in this tournament, and some of these guys are among the absolute best in the NHL.
