If we just want them to change rules on a whim then this tournament will never be more than an all-star game.

What should happen is before the next one allow for larger rosters or taxi squads that are able to fly in when needed.
The spirit of this tournament is best on best, Quinn Hughes is the best, the idea that he shouldn't play at all if he regains the ability to is insane to me. I say that as a Canadian.

Hell let Petro play if he wants to, but it sounds crazy to me to watch a lesser product and have worse competition just because. It's a stupid rule to begin with and I'm never in favor of stupid rules being enforced.

Let the teams name a good chunk of players and obviously if the best are hurt others go in, but the idea that the best would get left off when they can play is crazy to me.

If Harley was unavailable to Canada right now I would have no isssues. But the fact that he still is, means they effectively have one more extra player than we do. That is what makes it unfair.

Canadians complaining about Binnington. Americans upset about Canadians having an extra dman. Looks like both sides have their excuses ready to go. 😉

Forget Petro...Canada needs Logan Thompson if we're letting anyone join.

I was literally just thinking about how much I hate having Binnington in net lol, just watching overdrive on YouTube. It is what it is I won't use it as an excuse, I'm just happy to have the international game back. He won't even make the team next time though I don't get the thought process but listening to the podcast they're saying why all the red tape let the best go at it which I agree with. First tournament in forever, next one will be more thought out

...so the rule was followed...Canada just hit it first...no rule was added, bent or broken...so the issue is that Canada hit that critical point before anyone else did...as I stated PAGES AGO...timing... :biglaugh:

Very poor roster management here. Could Hughes potentially tap in for Tkachuk or Matthews if they can’t play?
Matthews has the chance to do something he's never done, be a leader. Sit out, get Hughes into the lineup (put Sanderson on 4th line wing or whatever). It's not like USA would miss their 4th or 5th best C anyway

Winner take all game.. I'd have more confidence in the guy who's won a cup (with a great SCF game 7) going up against the guy who's shit the bed the last 2 playoffs

I agree the rules should be different and they should make those changes for the next iteration.

Wait so no Quinn now?

What was all that shit about then, bastards.

The media will be the media, I guess. Much ado about nothing. I still have yet to see a source stating that USA Hockey has even asked the NHL if Hughes could be added to the roster with the loss of McAvoy. I admit I haven't been looking very hard, but I'm also under the assumption that if that had actually happened, it would have been posted here very quickly.

I don't make sense yet you're the one who keeps pretending as if the US has 8 defenseman when Hughes is in Vancouver.
Yes, I said that when it was reported that he was heading to Boston, which all of you were talking up as if the US was going to fake an injury to get him in. You know that the back and forth we had yesterday was when we all thought Hughes was going to Boston.

They have 6 healthy D and Canada didn't, hence the Harley call-up. Sounds like the rules are pretty consistent to me despite you stating otherwise.

Also sounds to me like they could call Hughes up but he couldn't play despite an injury, and he just doesn't want to fly across the continent for no reason.

Feel like we're debating different things at this point so all good.

I'm going to say if a player is initially listed on a roster, then needs to get replaced, but during the time of the tournament becomes healthy enough to play they should be allowed to play, but that they should automatically take the spot of whichever player was named as the injury replacement (unless of course that injury replacement is taking the spot of a different injured player).

So the initial 7 for USA were: Faber, Fox, Hanifin, Q. Hughes, McAvoy, Slavin, Werenski.

Q. Hughes injured, replaced by Sanderson.

Then if Q. Hughes subsequently healthy, he can replace Sanderson. But with McAvoy now injured, Sanderson stays and replaces McAvoy.

This I think avoids any shenanigans of teams having roster decision regret, which I think is the scenario you would most like to avoid, while still ensuring healthy roster players are able to play. Essentially keeps the spirit of the injury replacement rule.

Yes, the rule is dumb that one team is allowed to roster more players than another team. We agree. Enjoy the game
Is Hughes not being added to the roster though? Like Sullivan said? He’s aloud to be there as a 7 Dman but he can’t play unless someone else is out. Just like Harley , Canada can only play him if someone else is out
