Never forget slavin was the guy that made Deangelo look like a star.
Barrasso, Housley, Chelios, Leetch, Modano, Hull Roenick and Lafontaine were HOF players. Only player I see definitely making HOF is Matthews. Can't see at all how you can make that case.I don’t think the 96 team is better than this team. Again Canada is clinging to Doughty and Crosby for this argument, McDavid has never won a best on best either…
I think this is a flawed argument. Unless Thompson or another Canadian goalie can really emerge they enter that tournament severely down in that department. They don’t have a better d-core. In a one and done any one of the big five teams can win so not disputing that. However, this isn’t the 90’s, the USMNTDP has accomplished the objectives of the program it has put them on a far more level playing field.
I'd imagine that barring any of them falling off a cliff, the high majority of this team is on the Olympic team. Of the maybe 1-3 that could be swapped out (Kreider, Nelson, maybe Trocheck), I'd think that Knies is a little too far down the list.Leaf fan here, but American. LOVED last nights game. What are chances Knies makes the Olympic Team? He's becoming bad ass.
Knies is Matthews RW and a good compliment to him. He is closer than you think.I'd imagine that barring any of them falling off a cliff, the high majority of this team is on the Olympic team. He wasn't worried about it. Guessing he sits against Sweden and plays in the championship. What's the status of M. Tkachuk?
I think he's in a group after Thompson, Tuch and Robertson. I don't think he's closer than that.Knies is Matthews RW and a good compliment to him. He is closer than you think.
IMO he is better than Tuch and has more room to improve. He wasn't worried about it. Guessing he sits against Sweden and plays in the championship.

I'm not sure when they're actually going to select the team, but his time is a bit limited.IMO he is better than Tuch and has more room to improve.
No he’s not by literally every single metricIMO he is better than Tuch and has more room to improve.
He is just 22 and will complete his breakout this years PO and next year. Those metrics will be completely meaningless when Team USA makes their choices. No he’s not by literally every single metric
You can just say you only watch the Leafs - all good. Tuch plays in every situation and would slot in perfectly as a bottom line guy which is how the discussion started. Tuch has 3 SHGs this year and could have more considering the rate he strips and gets breakaways. He is just 22 and will complete his breakout this years PO and next year. Calling it right now. What do your awesome Metrics tell you about people evaluating talent and making hard & fast oredictions?
Going forward, it might be tough to keep Vlasic off, if even as a 7th to begin with.Nope, Sanderson or McDonough but no way McCabe but Hanifin responded well but the game Monday is meaningless for US, so play Sanderson and let Swayman\Oettinger split the game. Kreider in for M Tkachuk.
In person, I was really impressed with Matthews defensive game but agree his offense lacked. Wouldn’t mind turning him into a 3C for the final.I'd like to see them shuffle the lines a bit. Larkin moves to L1 with Matthews, Hughes drops down a bit to his slot. The chemistry just isn't there with Matthews and Hughes.
You could also drop Matthews down as a shutdown line. Yeah maybe that's not the best use of the world's best goalscorer, but he isn't himself this year but he's still capable of horse-like 200 foot play and dominating his own zone.
Amazing game last night. Lets hope for a Swayman - Ullmark goalie duel in Boston.
Play Free Bird! USA USA USA!!!!
Don’t see it. Too many better options availableLeaf fan here, but American. LOVED last nights game. What are chances Knies makes the Olympic Team? He's becoming bad ass.
I see a ton of Tuch as I have ESPN+ and I am a BRUINS fan born and raised in Boston. Watched plenty of Tuch at BC, fine player but he has peaked. Those metrics are meaningless because you can't use "metrics" on what you think will happen in the future. Its obviously opinion based. You can just say you only watch the Leafs - all good. Tuch plays in every situation and would slot in perfectly as a bottom line guy which is how the discussion started. Tuch has 3 SHGs this year and could have more considering the rate he strips and gets breakaways.
Not saying Knies is bad at all, I just think you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to Tuch and are overrating your own player.
Like every other player that leaves the Sabres I’m sure once he’s somewhere else people will notice how good he is.
Again - I don’t blame you for not watching the Sabres unless your team is involved - all good.
Nah i want to see another US Canada game. Will be rooting for Canada against Finland.Hear me out.
Depending on how the early game tomorrow goes, USA could lose, and by lose I mean pulling the goalie late, against sweden, and deny Canada a shot at the finals.
Imagine the rage.
That's the position Canada finds themselves in.
