I'm glad we're going to get another game with Canada. Two best player pools and as hockey fans, we deserve more best-on-best competition. What a treat to get a rematch after that round robin game.

But I would be lying if I didn't say it feels like it could be another heartbreaking tournament end. The last time the national team didn't fail to deliver was when I was a kid in the 96 World Cup. It's been non-stop disappointment for nearly three decades since.

All this nastiness between Canada and the U.S. needs to end.

We're blessed to live next to each other.

To be fair, Canada is not to blame.

Sure they are. All about perspective.

Top end depth exceeds 1996? Totally disagree. 1996 had Chelios, Leetch & Housley on D make the HOF and Modano, Roenick, Hull, and Lafontaine make the HOF uofront. Barrasso is in the HOF and was backup to Richter. Then you had
depth upfront like LeClair, Amonte, Weight and Young (F who could play D).
Hatcher and Suter as #4\5 D also.

Only certain HOF I see currently is Matthews and if he puts up a couple more Vezina's, Hellebuyck. Don't know how anyone can objectively make that statement
about this group.
You're not understanding my point.

Top end depth today clearly smokes 1996. You couldn't name 1 player who should have been on that 96 team that got snubbed. Not 1. We were lucky to have 14-15 elite players. Greatest generation we have had. But after that? It falls off pretty hard where guys on the downswing like Janney, Kevin Stevens, Olczyk, Iafrate, Granato, Carpenter, etc where what we had next in line and nowhere close to what Canada had.

This year we have a dozen names plus who could be here. This is night and day and it's not even close. Our B team can beat most countries. That wasn't the case in 96 at all.

First of all "top end" in the context of a National Team means your talking about 23 players, not an entire countries player pool.

Hiwever Janney had 82 points in the 1995-96 season, he was plenty good still. Could absolutely been considered over say McEachern. Stevens career was never the same after face planting in '93. Would have been 31 years old which would mean 2 years younger than Nelson and Kreider.

Bottom line anyway is this US Team isn't as good as the '96 team.

This is what it's supposed to be about, national pride! Damn glad to finally see this again. Trudeau and Poilivere were both in attendance Saturday and rightfully so. Hope Trump & our administration shows up Thursday, best thing for USA Hockey and the sport.
I wouldn't want that guy anywhere near the game Thursday. US gets defeated he would shit on them and call them losers.

This U.S. team is GREAT - give credit where credit is due.

Their best players from their best drafts are in their prime. They will be VERY hard to beat.

PLEASE DON'T.

It was just a short exchange that I should NOT have started. MY BAD.

Stick to hockey, please.
Certainly are very good and can beat Canada, but AD made a statement I just don't
agree with. They win this and follow up with even a Silver against Canada that would change things or reverse the order and that would change things also.

You're comparing a team of people that have long retired to many 26-28 year olds. Of course the 96 team looks better right now lol.

It was the greatest team ever assembled for our country. Might go down that way forever. But this team in 10 years might be viewed better when all their careers are over. Only time will tell.

And no, top end depth doesn't just mean 23 players, it means ALL our top end players in our available pool. Right now we absolutely smoke 96 and you are delusional if you think it's even comparable.

I have NO idea what that sentence means. :)

I would like to see Canada win on the off chance this is Sid's last BoB.
Plus, I am Canadian.
Means I would accept AD contention that this US Group have more "high end" depth than '96, if they win 4N and get in Gold Medal Game against Canada or lose Thursday and win Olympic Gold.
