According to this article: Patrik Laine expected to make Team Finland, Cole Caufield appears set to miss out on Team USA | TSN

Caufield and Thompson are out and Kreider, Trocheck, and Nelson are in. I can see Jack Hughes and J.T. Miller on the wing with Matthews, Eichel, and Larkin the top three centers and Nelson/Trocheck the 4th line center. Perhaps one of them is the 13th forward. Maybe the forward group looks like this:

M. Tkachuk/Eichel/Boldy
B. Tkachuk/Matthews/J. Hughes
Connor/Larkin/Miller
Kreider/Nelson/Guentzel
Trocheck

That would mean no Tuch. It makes me wonder if Connor is at risk.
I really like that top 9, and I can live with the 4th. That said, I kind of have a feeling one of Connor and Guentzel don't make it.

I agree. I think it may be Connor. I know that would shock some people but if he isn't on a scoring line he's not of much value. I also think he doesn't have a lot of fans at USA Hockey. Personally, I would have found a place for Thompson/Tuch on this team, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards (at least Thompson, Tuch may still make it).

Has to be the dumbest international tournament in the history of the NHL. Can’t believe the jackoffs running this league actually think it was a good idea to not only create this but to pause the season for it. I want them arrested
I love it and am excited to see some best on best action for the first time in a long time. Way more interesting than an All star week to me.

It’s absolute crazy talk to love hockey and to not want to see international hockey best on best.

How can you love the sport and not want to see these athletes go at it?

I simply don’t get it

Sure it could be designed better, and it’s a meaningless trophy with no history, but the fact that we get international hockey again after a decade is all that matters. The players will take it very seriously, guys like mcdavid and Matthew’s have missed almost a decade of opportunity playing internationally

It should have been an 8-team thing and not limited to NHL players. Throw some pittances to the Euro leagues, everyone has a price to make it work, and the Euro sport culture has a more built-in international season anyways so they would have been easy to get on board. Something more global. Kind of like the '96 and '04 things but not lame summer off-season things before training camp. Get Czechia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Germany there (if the Euros are gonna boycott Russia's presence for now, then get them next time since the war will be over by then).

That makes for a better event.

I watch him every game so could definitely be biased..but I watch a ton of hockey and I struggle to see more dominant defenders than Alex Vlasic. His size, reach, and speed are almost mirror images of Slavin. In tournaments like this you really need guys who can defend at an elite level.

Hard to argue with the season that Werenski is having though.

This is a weird feeling. USAH head honchos not going off the wall in an attempt to be the smartest person in the room?

All valid choices. No indefensible omissions. No off the wall surprise picks.

They picked a stacked team. We are absolutely putting forth our best foot as a country here. I know it's fun to complain about USAH, and they certainly do enough dumb stuff to deserve it, but absolutely nothing wrong with how they built this roster. Nailed it.

Only surprise is that they didn't take at least one veteran defenseman. But not really a surprise when you can choose more than 7 #1 d-men to be on your team.
