I’d argue centers are a definite weakness. Their top two centers Zibanejad and Pettersson are both well out of form, to put it nicely. And we’re going on many months, arguably past the 12 months threshold at this point.

Zibanejad yes, but Pettersson has been finding his game again.

8 points in his last 4 games, 18 in his last 12, and most of it while Miller is out & he's the #1C getting all the attention.

So Foppa questioned the toughness (surprise surprise).

To answer it Hallam talks about the gritty players, but then also about toughness as in veterans who have gone far in the playoffs. The two names he brings up is Nyquist & JEEk... Which is a weird selection, and why I bring this up.

Nyquist has gone past the first round three times, and past the second round once (2019 finals with SJS), and JEEk has never gone past the first round. There's much better choices to bring up on that point haha.

Goes to show how much förbundskaptener really know, eh?

I like Nyquist a lot, both he and Arvidsson plays with a lot of passion. A year ago, I think Forsberg/Eriksson-EK/Nyquist could have made for a good line with JEE being a Ryan O'Reilly replacement on their line from Nashville. But the way things have started this season, I'm not so sure anymore...

I agree with Foppa that the lineup looks quite soft or thin. I worry this team will get outmatched physically. Then again, Sweden doesn't exactly have a lot of strong physical players to chose from at the moment.

I dont expect anyone on this team to play for us in the WC later in May. Should still field a good team with it being on home ice and lots of players wanting to show that they belong in Olympics 2026. Guys like Eklund, Edvinsson, Holmström, Zetterlund etc.

If they run with Zib as the 2C, Sweden will be in real trouble. They should have selected Backlund and went with Petey - JEE - Karlsson - Backlund as the centers. And definitely dropped Lindholm for Zetterlund or Eklund.

Defense was hard to go wrong with who they had available to them.

It's unfortunate that EK65 and Zib were selected in advance; none of them should make the team. Zetterlund is missing. I would also consider bringing Backlund as a fourth-line center, heck, maybe even Holmström as a PK specialist.

I miss Jörgen Jönsson as well...

He'll get to rest his shoulder or whatever it was that made him reject earlier call-ups and join the team in May. So far his only tournament with the national team was the 2021 Nordic Cup against Denmark and Norway.
