Before 4 Nations, I think most would overwhelming put Olympics as the more important to win over 4 Nations. But adding that any sort of best on best hasn’t been played since 2016 (2014 if your one of those), the political climate and a lot of today’s generation never representing their country in a BoB, was the 4 Nations are more important tourny to win then the Olympics?

Olympics by a country mile

As fun as this tournament was, the excitement was more about the long wait of a best on best nations tournament (4 nations anyway), and finally seeing guys like: McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby, and Makar all playing together on the same team (in meaningful games).

This will kind of be forgotten in a year's time.

I agree with everything but the last sentence. This felt like hockey's most viral moment in the multimedia age; i think itll be remembered for a long while

The Olympics being just one year from now after a 12 year absence, followed by the WC in 2028, I dunno how much the 4 Nations will be talked about in the future. Plus it was only 4 teams, not truely best on best.

Still fun regardless of course.

Very fair and I do believe they plan on raising the number of nations? Maybe I misread

The specific moment of the fights in the first USA v Canada game, as well as the final OT goal (passing of the torch some say), I think will be talked for a while

As a whole I believe the tournament is a nice fit in between Olympic and AS years

4 nations has a higher level of play, sorely due to the fact there are no filler teams or players from lower leagues. Also NHL rules >>>>> IIHF rules, which raises the entertainment value.

However the Olympics hold more prestige because it has a history. 4 nations will take a few iterations to build prestige.

To answer the OPs question, the Olympics is more important for now, even if it isn't better hockey.

This is probably the best answer, with the filler teams and NHL rules and officials.

For what, the Olympics or WC?
WC is minimum 8 Daly said.

What's even the argument to say it was more important?

Olympics definitely more important.

Still - 4 nations was meaningfull, and some great hockey played.

Olympics more important but hockey is always going to be better, more intense on the smaller ice. Olympic hockey is boring for the most part until you get closer to the Medal games.

It will be played on NHL sized ice. IIHF rules and refs though so no staged fights....sorry....

That's good about the ice size.
There will be no fighting at all, staged or otherwise.
Not sure why you'd apologize for that.

Four Nations will live longer in the memory. The puck drop times in Italy will lead to very low viewership

It was a dig at the first US/Canada game lol....no, fighting under IIHF is an immediate game misconduct....
A punch, or an attempted punch, thrown by any player in the direction of an opponent, regardless as to whether contact is made, is considered fighting. (a) A major plus a game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who engages in fighting.

The 4 Nations was a one off. There won't be any more iterations.

However, for young fans it may be remembered more than with older fans. For one, there's a whole generation of kids who have never seen NHL players in the Olympics, and the NHL owns all the rights to 4 Nations media so they'll endlessly promote it (at least until the 2028 World Cup) vs the Olympics which they dont own the rights too so they can't use the footage.

Has the NHL said it's a one and done?

I'm 41 and have seen several Olympics with NHL player participation. I'll remember this one just fine, what I'll remember most is it was the highest quality if hockey ever played.

The puck drop times in Italy mean a North America gold medal game would happen around 9am on a Sunday morning for the eastern time zone…

Ratings will obviously be lower in North America if a European nation is in the final, but the Olympics Gold Medal game will clobber Four Nations viewers if it is Canada/u.s.a again.

I'll always remember this for 220lb guys picking fights with 190lb guys and missing the rest of the season after prearranging it on a groupchat and bragging about it.lol

I get the argument.. the political climate around it was off the charts and it was certainly must see TV.

BUT

Nothing compares to a best on best Olympics when it comes to international hockey. Nothing.

Obviously the Olympics have more prestige but I've found the caliber of hockey in this tournament and the last Wprld cup to superior to what I saw in the Olympics. So I'll likely find them more memorable.
